I'm trying to understand what actually happens under-the-hood with Shared Columns in Document Sets in SharePoint (Server 2016 & 2019).
I am looking for changed items in SharePoint by looking in the change log (SPChangeCollection). I am finding inconsistent behaviors when I change a Shared Column. Sometime the contained documents are shown as updated, sometime not. If I display the shared column in the docset view, it always appears to be updated (almost) instantaneously.
I'm wondering what SharePoint is doing under-the-hood, is there a timer job? an sql trigger? and event? Is it possible the action gets 'lost' when SP is under load? etc.
