Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA): Upcoming changes to Office support

When: Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at 9:00am PT | On October 13, 2020, Office 2016 for Mac and Office 2010 reach their end of support. After that date, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support, bug fixes, or security updates for either version. Microsoft will not take any active measures to block older versions of the Office client from connecting to Office 365 services, but these legacy clients may encounter performance and/or reliability issues over time. This AMA provides an opportunity to ask questions about these upcoming changes. Please join in the Office End of Support AMA space. While we’ll only be answering questions in real-time from 9:00-10:00 a.m. Pacific Time, you can post your questions for the AMA to the Office End of Support AMA space in the Office End of Support Tech Community up to 24 hours in advance.

Blog: Alternative ways for security professionals and IT to achieve modern security controls in toda...

With the bulk of end users now working remotely, legacy network architectures that route all remote traffic through a central corporate network are suddenly under enormous strain. The result can be poorer performance, productivity, and user experience. Many organizations are now rethinking their network infrastructure design to address these issues, especially for applications like Microsoft Teams and Office 365. At Microsoft, for example, we adopted split tunneling as part of our VPN strategy. Our customers have asked us for guidance on how to manage security in this changing environment. An architecture that routes all remote traffic back to the corporate network was originally intended to provide the security team with the following: (1) Prevention of unauthorized access, (2) Control of authorized user access, (3) Network protections such as Intrusion Detection/Prevention (IDS/IPS) and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) mitigation, and (4) Data loss prevention (DLP). In this post, we’ll address alternative ways of achieving modern security controls, so security teams can manage risk in a more direct-to-internet network architecture. | Related: Microsoft IT Showcase: Running on VPN - How Microsoft is keeping its remote workforce connected

Office hours are text-based; there is no audio or virtual meeting component. To post a question, you just need to be a member of the Tech Community. Can’t attend at 8:00 a.m. Pacific Time? Again, no problem. Post a question in the Windows 10 servicing space up to 24 hours in advance and we'll make sure we review it during office hours.
