Preview exited, now GA: PowerPoint Presenter View in Teams
- Feb 13, 2021
For everyone asking for a way to toggle presenter view, thank you for your feedback! We feel your pain and are addressing it with a quick mitigation via a keyboard shortcut for now: try clicking in the slide area, and press "Ctrl+Shift+X". The notes and thumbnail strip should be closed. Using the same keyboard shortcut key again can bring the presenter view back. This update will be available in a day or two.
At the same time, we are also working on hiding the presenter view by default on devices with small screen. It will be available soon.
Again, thank you for being a part of public preview and helping us make the product better!

Emily Kirby I'm wondering if there is any update on this feature? I am new to Teams. Two weeks ago, when I went to share a PPT in Teams, the default was this new Presenter view! I was so excited because I could see my notes and my chat at the same time! Today, when I share a PPT, I no longer see the Presenter view. I also don't see an option to switch to Presenter view. I've tried "Ctrl+Shift+X" and it's not working. I'd love to find a way to get it back. Please let me know if I'm missing something. Thank you!
- Paul MitchellMay 07, 2021Brass ContributorI can access the new presenter view on my Windows 10 device, but when I try the same on my Mac, the Teams share try opens with a black screen. Th circle icon spins for sixty seconds and then closes. I have checked for updates, rebooted etc. The Mac is running the latest Mac OS.

Emily Kirby In my case, as I said in a previous comment, this feature seems to be disabled (by default?) and since yesterday I am unable to re-enable it by using the Ctrl+Shift+X shortcut -- although it seemed to work the day before.
Since, as I have explained earlier, I find it very useful in some cases (in a teaching situation), and although my screen might be small, I would really like to have the option to enable/disable this feature at will.
Does anyone else have the same issue? Is it a global change or something was altered by the IT dept / admin on my organization's end?

Did you click on the slide area before hitting the shortcut? Also, this feature is only available on desktop client. Let me know, thanks!- YVogiatzisMar 04, 2021Copper Contributor
Emily Kirby Thank you very much for your reply. As of today, I am glad to say that I can see and use the new menu for controlling the Presenter view, Enabling/disabling this feature is very helpful (esp. for teaching), as is the option to "go to" a particular slide at will. Thanx for that. Microsoft just made mine and my students' experience a lot better.

Ironically i am looking to use this feature, i have public preview enabled but i do not see the notes and thumbnails. I have the latest version, i have tried using the Ctrl+Shift+X thinking that maybe this was off, but this hasn't worked. Is there other reasons this might not be working ?

Hi KennyJcc, Interesting.. Did this work for you before? What device are you on? (Mac, Windows?)

This is on a windows running win10, laptop. I haven’t seen this reported by anyone else and so seems quite strange behaviour. It almost feels like the functionality is there but not showing. I don’t know if this is normal behaviour but if I log on Teams via the web the functionality works as expected, just not using the Teams desktop app.

This certainly was a quick response and is greatly appreciated! However, a toggle switch would still be more beneficial than asking end users to remember a keyboard shortcut. Where a user may be working across a device with a larger screen and a device with a smaller screen, having a varied user experience forced between the two could cause frustration. Having a toggle slider would alleviate this.

I am happy to report that users in my tenant, including myself, now have an option to show or hide presenter view when sharing a presentation. The setting appears below the presented slide in a menu within the ellipsis.
Thank you for listening to the community and actioning this!

Thank you
- DNP-HD-KingsFeb 14, 2021Copper ContributorPleased by the rapid response and looking forward to passing on the shortcut. However, a simple toggle in the control bar would be better than changing the default based on screen size. Our staff have multiple monitors and projectors to teach students in class and online simultaneously.

I want to say thanks however it has taken a week for you to recognise this problem in the first place and secondly this feature is live, people here are not in the public preview so thanking people for being part of it is a nice way of trying to sweep this under the rug instead of apologising for how this went live when it shouldn't of and how you will make sure things like this don't happen again.
- lmunckFeb 14, 2021Copper ContributorAwesome! Thank you guys.
- eduitguyFeb 13, 2021Copper ContributorThis is great news and thank you for getting on to this so quickly!
