New chapters taking all my storage space./How to turn off versioning/delete old versions all at once
- Jul 13, 2023I figured out the solution by my self, I'm using education version so this may not work for your business version. (But it should)
1. Creating a new version each time you edit the file isn't a bug, it's a feature a lot of people complaining about.
2. Microsoft has removed the no versioning option since a couple years ago, by now you can only limit the version through this path:
settings/more settings/return to the old site settings page/Site libraries and lists/Customize "Documents" /Versioning settings
OR
return to classic one drive/site settings/Site libraries and lists/Customize "Documents" /Versioning settings
3. You may still need to delete the old versions, deleting the old versions one by one isn't practical at all, here's how to delete them all at once:
return to classic one drive/right click on the file you want/delete all versions
yeah I know you still need to delete versions one file by one file, but at least not one version by one version...

Cool, thank you for the tips on getting to the helpful settings in classic .... that's great!
I do wonder though, if it brings up the question about whether OneDrive is the best place to be storing the video. I had noticed that there is a user experience difference between OneDrive and SharePoint. SP has the "delete versions" and "delete all minor versions" options easily visible. I'm not sure if that difference is by design or by oversight, but the versions delete option is missing for other file types as well, it's not just a Videos\Stream problem.
So if your videos that require a lot of editing were moved to a SharePoint location, you'd have that delete versions link a little more readily available, and your management of the files within libraries would be more granular, to the point you could even shut off versioning altogether on the library, tho I'm not sure I'd want to go that route except in rare cases.

- Cynthia WalbySep 06, 2023Copper ContributorThough this will work, it is a nightmare to train all users in a company how to manage their video versions after already going through a video migration process, which was frustrating enough for them. Video file extensions should be "excluded" from versioning, or better yet, allow users at the very least, to opt out of video versioning.
Is there any news as to whether this will be on the roadmap soon, as I could not find it, and my testing today shows still creating versions for any video edit, be it as simple as creating a chapter.
