I’m pleased to announce new capabilities arriving this month to Microsoft Intune designed to help make the year ahead more productive, secure, and efficient. We also have news for our government cloud customers, and some exciting new additions to our analytics offering.
New year, new UI
First up is an upgrade to the devices workload experience. We’ve made the UI more coherent, organizing the navigation structure around device management scenarios and putting more controls in place to reduce the number of clicks needed for common activities. This update also puts monitoring into the workflow, offering easier access to metrics and reports to help admins achieve their objectives faster. Look for a tour in the UI that will walk you through the changes. The rollout will begin January 26 through the end of February for all tenants in public and government clouds.
We used a lot of input from our customers to bring this experience to life, so let me offer my thanks for your participation in our preview and the feedback! I am pleased to share that this experience is now generally available (GA). It will enable consistent navigation menus, easier access to management and monitoring tasks, and a smoother admin experience overall. Try it out and as always, continue to give us feedback.
Microsoft Intune adds more Advanced Analytics capabilities
Further to the announcement at Microsoft Ignite, I am pleased to confirm that Intune will start to roll out the device query feature as part of the new Advanced Analytics solution set in the Intune Suite on February 1, 2024. This new capability enables real-time querying of device properties from individual, cloud-managed Windows devices using the familiar Kusto Query Language (KQL) syntax. This builds on the existing capability of viewing collected inventory data in Intune and enhances the functionality by enabling admins to access more data about the state and configuration of devices by establishing a live connection to the device and running the query in real-time.

Note: Microsoft Intune Advanced Analytics will be available as part of the Intune Suite and available as a standalone add-on offer effective February 1st. The new capabilities, Device query and battery health reporting, are both being added to the Intune Suite and the new Advanced Analytics add-on which also includes anomaly detection, device timeline and device scopes capabilities. |
Real-time, in-depth information from device queries can help support staff, security pros, and IT administrators gain a deeper understanding of device hardware profiles and configurations to rapidly respond to threats and other issues.
Additionally, the Advanced Analytics Battery health report is now GA. This new report offers richer asset management experience for IT, helping avoid costly interruptions and informing purchasing decisions. This report will integrate with device scores for licensees, helping IT admins identify potential hardware issues and act in a timely manner, such as replacing a failing battery before warranty expiration.
App management for government environments
One of the more anticipated releases of the last year was mobile application management (MAM) for Windows. In October, we announced GA for this capability. Now, Windows MAM is also supported in U.S. government cloud environments.
Customers in Government Community (GCC), Government Community High (GCC-High), and Department of Defense (DOD) environments can now connect securely to enterprise resources from personal Windows devices. Additionally, Windows MAM for Intune is also available in China.
