Introducing a new question type, File Upload

You asked, we listened. This important new feature allows form designers to choose a new question type, File Upload, which enables respondents to attach files as part of their response. All files can be accessed in both SharePoint and OneDrive for Business.

With File Upload, form creators can set the limit on number and size of files, in addition to file types. This feature is in roll-out.

Engage respondents with video using new Stream video support

Microsoft Forms now allows designers to insert a Stream video into the form. In addition to previously supported YouTube URLs, Stream video enables users to leverage internal content.

Immersive Reader empowers a more inclusive experience for all students

[EDU only] Immersive reader is a full screen reading experience to increase readability of content in Microsoft Forms desktop/mobile view. The addition of immersive reader functionality enhances Forms accessibility within the classroom.

Unified Auditing enhances visibility into compliance actions

Auditing is a feature within the Security & Compliance center which allows an admin or compliance officer to find if a user/admin performed specific actions--i.e. viewed a specific Form, deleted a Form from their system, changed important Forms settings, etc. The Security and Compliance center allows admins to search across the entire unified audit log spanning many O365 products. The admin or compliance officer can restrict their searches to specific workloads (Ex. Forms), specific activities within that workload (Ex. Create Form), specific date ranges, and specific users to filter results. This feature is in roll-out.

(See: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/compliance/search-the-audit-log-in-security-and-compl... for details on required roles/groups)

hi, I seem to have gained multilingual but lost branching - it is no longer an option - please advise?

Copper Contributor

@tripleiBranching-config seem to have moved from form settings to the options of the individual questions in your Form.

@MeeraAjam

I still not understand why warnings about phishing forms are not part of the security center alerts? Even now after you adding the activities to audit logs. I think Forms is the only service that posts content warnings in the messaging center.

Microsoft

@TobiasAT Thanks for asking. Adding Forms phishing related activities into auditing log is on our backlog and we'll start to implement it soon.

Is there a timeline for roll-out for the File Upload feature? My org is waiting on this feature before we're able to successfully use MS Forms and I'd like to provide project stakeholders an update.

Silver Contributor

@MeeraAjam, I'm looking forward to the file upload and hope it comes out soon as our tenant doesn't have it yet.  I do like the fact that Stream videos are finally a part of Forms and thought that capability should have been around for quite awhile.

Copper Contributor

File upload is a great feature that will help my organization to grab better info. I also would like to know estimated time for release and also whether it also compatible with flow

Thanks in advance

File upload appear to adhere to the external Sharing policies cf SharePoint and OneDrive which for me mean the file upload after two years of waiting is absolutely useless for external use. Since external is sharing is controlled to only authorised external partners. Which in forms mean we can only use the file upload question type internally...

So much for my vision of being able to have files uploaded from external partners and use the form fields as metadata back into SharePoint :(

If there is a way around this without breaking the external sharing policy which is existing external guests in our directory. Then I would be interested to hear. If we can do this from specific accounts that would be something

I am trying to get users off of alternative solutions and this just does not help. its has been so long waiting for this feature only for it to be a big disappointment.

@MeeraAjam, I'm disappointed if that is true with file upload not being allowed for external people.  I have thought of several uses for file uploads for external users and if internal would be more limited.    Glad @Philip Worrell, pointed that out and hope that can be fixed and fixed soon.  Here I was all set to promote the feature when we got it but now not sure.

Copper Contributor

It will be more helpful if Forms can also provide audio uploading for the questions. Take for example when we have a listening test and we have one conversation in every question, it will really help us if we can directly upload the audio without changing  it into video and upload it on YouTube.

Copper Contributor
it is useless if external users cannot upload files, two years of waiting was for nothing, i guess. this will not stop our users from not using other platform but just use office forms. :( i hope there will be a quick fix or workaround for this...
Brass Contributor

I'm glad that most awaited feature of Form "File Upload" is finally coming, I hope the rollout will be completed by the end of December 2019 :)

Copper Contributor

File Upload is a good news, thanks!

I hope later on also creators can add files to Forms.  And maybe words with links

Copper Contributor

Para cuando va a estar implementada esta opción? es para la versión pro o la normal?

Copper Contributor

Is there a place other than One Drive  the attachments from Forms can be routed to?

Brass Contributor

You can create forms in a group enabled SharePoint teams site or Teams and it will save back there

.otherwise it is a case of creating a flow in power automate to copy / move the files when they come in.

Copper Contributor

Still waiting on the File Upload option for Microsoft Forms. Is there a time frame for all of the US?

Silver Contributor

@NateG2320, according to an article I just saw online the time frame is by the end of this month.

Copper Contributor

I don't find the "File Upload" option on my Office 365 online account. Is this option available only on specific country?

Thanks,

Alessandro.

Copper Contributor

@Jeffrey Allen can you post the link to the article? Thank you!

Silver Contributor

@abby221, here is the article I saw yesterday that talks about the feature and the roll out "Microsoft Forms Gets File Upload Capability" https://www.petri.com/microsoft-forms-upload-files

Silver Contributor

@MeeraAjam, I was glad to see that file uploads has rolled out to our tenant and since I voted for it as part of the Uservoice it was nice to see an email with a survey on it and hoping that soon the file uploads will work with external users as that seemed to be the indication from the Uservoice survey!

Brass Contributor

Good! can we upload more than 10MB file size? And can there be an option to upload more than one file with a single question? Or we have to create a new question for each file upload?

Silver Contributor

@MoTheSeeker, yes there are up to 1GB file size.fileupload1.png

Brass Contributor

Perfect! Thank you, @Jeffrey Allen :)

Copper Contributor

File uploads do not support visitors, which makes this feature useless

Copper Contributor

File uploads should support people outside of your organisation? When is this coming? Is it planned? @MeeraAjam

Thank you

Copper Contributor

I still looking to see when Labeling will be part of the function. Including Bold and change the color of the letters.

Copper Contributor

Hi - When will the file upload for external users be available? Please could you provide a update?

Copper Contributor

Great improvements but more than 2,000 people need to print empty forms the are some other crucially important activites more than these makeup things, PRINTING  SUCKS on FORMS. We needed a very important form to become digital by using forms, but NO, we couldn´t use FORMS in case the parent didn´t have internet at home, we could send a phisycal copy but don´t so we migrate to google forms.

Copper Contributor

Are the selections made saved in some sort of variable that can be referenced later?

For example:
1) Who was your instructor?
    -Bob

    -Karen

    -Ray

2) What was your favorite part about the instruction from @@Instructor? (Where @@Instructor is replaced with the selection from question one.)

And can also be used for branching as well.  For example:
1) Which Training Site did you use?

    -Los Angeles

   -San Francisco

2) Was your course a Formal Course or a Refresher?

    -Formal

    -Refresher

3) What did you like about your training?

4) What did you NOT like about your training?

(Condition: if @@Location is 'Los Angeles' AND @@Course is 'Formal')

5) Was the provided iPad helpful during training? (This question will only display if the conditions above are met.)

This is probably a bad example as I could achieve this just with branching and a reorder of the questions. In my actual case there are two sites, three crew positions, two course types, dozens of instructors at each site, 50+ courses, and Dozens of lessons per course.  Writing out the questions and figuring out branching generates a page of spaghetti.

Thanks.

Copper Contributor

Sad that the file upload is just for internal (We have plenty of tools for internal, it's not a big improvement)...
We need for external!

Hope it will be possible.

Meanwhile I'll look for an alternative platform.

Copper Contributor

Has there been any update whether/when external sharing will be implemented?

Thanks

Copper Contributor

I LOVE when you get notified of a form response but I want that for my collaborators too. I tried setting a rule in Outlook to forward when I receive the mail notification but the View Responses link will not work for them. Please help provide a solution! Should be able to have several 'owners' of a form, not just the person who created it! Should also be able to transfer ownership! Should be able to see excel responses easier than having to download the whole file for every new response!

My thoughts are that forms needs lots of work to catch up to the competition!
