Greetings, Insiders! I’m Derik Stenerson from the Office team. We’re glad to share that the much-requested synonyms feature you know and love for Windows and Mac is now available in Word and PowerPoint for the web!

Synonyms feature look up

Many of you have requested on UserVoice that the synonyms lookup feature be made available in our apps for the web. We’re excited to make that happen! Now you have the ability to lookup synonyms for any word while working on documents and presentation on the web.

How it works

  1. Simply select and right-click on any word in your document or presentation, and then click Synonyms.
Right-click on a word and select Synonyms from the dropdownRight-click on a word and select Synonyms from the dropdown
  2. In the Search pane, click the word you want to use after reviewing the list of synonyms to insert it in your document or presentation.

Known issues

The insert function doesn’t automatically select and replace the word in the document if you just right-click it. You'll need to double-click the entire word to select it, and then right-click.

Feedback

We want to hear from you! In Word for the Web or PowerPoint for the web, click Help > Feedback to share your thoughts about this feature.
