Hi, Microsoft 365 Insiders! My name is Sofia Thomas and I'm a Product Manager on the Office AI team. I'm excited to let you know about an innovative feature we’ve developed for OneNote: our interactive ink tutorial. This feature is designed to seamlessly guide you through the latest developments in ink capabilities for your favorite notetaking app.

Interactive ink tutorial in OneNote

The interactive tutorial employs a show-and-tell approach to give you a thorough introduction to what you can do with ink in OneNote for Windows. It includes helpful videos demonstrating various ink features, including our innovative ink-to-text pen, as well as hands-on activities that you can try.

How it works

  1. When you add a new page in OneNote, you’ll be greeted with a message alerting you to the tutorial. Select Try it to start and follow along with the different activities.

  2. To return to the tutorial at any time, select the Ink Help button on the Draw tab and select Tutorial.

Tips and tricks

  • Immerse yourself in the videos and follow the guidelines presented on the adjacent canvas.
  • The hands-on tutorial experiences using text-pen examples require a stylus. Even if you don’t have a stylus, you can still learn from the tutorial videos.

Known issues

If you start the tutorial with a pen, then the tutorial will not work with a touchpad or mouse during that session. (The tutorial does work with a touchpad or mouse if you start it using one of those input methods.)

Availability

This feature is available to Microsoft 365 Insiders running Version 2405 (Build 17628.20006).

NOTE: The ink tutorial feature is not available to users of Windows N editions, which lack multimedia functionality; if users manually install the Windows Media Feature Pack, they will be able to access the tutorial.

Don’t have it yet? It’s probably us, not you.
Features are released over some time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.
