Hello, Microsoft 365 Insiders! I am Lakshay Gupta, a Product Manager on the PowerPoint for the web team. I am excited to let you know that we have added automatic formatting for bulleted lists to PowerPoint for the web. This brings parity with PowerPoint on other platforms and will make your text editing and formatting easier.

Automatic bullet formatting in PowerPoint for the web

Bulleted lists are one of the most used features in PowerPoint for the web. They help you effectively tell your story – with short, easy to scan, high impact statements.

Previously, you had to set up a bulleted list: switch to the ribbon, choose the type of bullet you wanted, and then select the desired bullet icon style.  Now you can create bulleted lists without having to lift your fingers off the keyboard or break your editing flow.

How it works

  1. Insert a textbox in PowerPoint for the web and start adding text.
  2. Type one of the symbols or numbers below to start your bulleted list with the corresponding bullet or numeric style, then press the spacebar.

    Symbol Bullet style
    *
    - -
    -- Square-Bullet_PPTweb.png
    > Arrow-Bullet_PPT-web.png
    <> 4-squares-bullet_-PPT-web.png

    Number Number style
    1. 1. 2. 3.
    1) 1) 2) 3)
    I. I. II. III. IV.
    i. i. ii. iii. iv.
    A. A. B. C.
    a. a. b. c.
    a) a) b) c)

Notice that the symbol is automatically converted to the bullet/number style, and the style continues to be used as add new items to your list.

Tips and tricks

Sometimes you just want the text!  If you type text and it automatically converts to a bullet, you can use the Backspace key to revert to the symbol.

Availability

This feature is available to all PowerPoint for the web users.

Features are released over some time to ensure things are working smoothly. We highlight features that you may not have because they’re slowly releasing to larger numbers of Insiders. Sometimes we remove elements to further improve them based on your feedback. Though this is rare, we also reserve the option to pull a feature entirely out of the product, even if you, as an Insider, have had the opportunity to try it.
