In the classic Outlook I can add Inbox folders of shared mailboxes to Favorites, easily detecting and accessing new emails sent to any of mailboxes I manage.

In the new Monarch Outlook, this is no longer possible as only my personal folders can be added to Favorites.

This is crazy how is this so difficult to add?

Copper Contributor

Oh yes! Comes as no surprise though, seems even the most basic things takes litteraly 4-EVER to implement and in the meantime the users are going crazy, gives up and goes back to the old version in anger. It's really sad because a lot of stuff are actually really great in the New Outlook.

Can't believe this still hasn't been addressed. I love the way everything looks compared to the old version, but I just can't justify making the switch until this function is added.

Copper Contributor

I saw that it was now possible on outlook mac desktop app.

Copper Contributor

That's interesting potentially good news. Weird that they have it working on Mac before Windows

Copper Contributor

Well... somebody has to support the 0.42% of the computers in the world.  😄

On the other hand, Windows 11 is trying desperately to look like Mac.  So they have that going for them.

An absolute joke, Only Microsoft can roll out new versions with less features and functionality then previous version. i have clients who work exclusively in their shared mailbox as default. they need it to be the default inbox for all emails and set it to favourite.

THIS NEEDS FIXING along with dozens of other issues.

or at least allow MICROSOFT users to download previous versions from office.com. but then they'd find very few people would upgrade...

Copper Contributor

@JMaartenW you can restrict users of your organization to use only legacy outlook.

Copper Contributor

@uername465 ok thanks for letting me know so does that mean the registry fix mentioned in this forum works even for a clean install where the previous version was never installed?

When a user logs into office.com with a MS 365 Business pro licence and installs the office apps they automatically get the new version of Outlook.

I agree that this is a showstopper for the New Outlook.
However - I do believe that this is on the M365 Roadmap:

By doing this it will (hopefully) be possible to place the Inbox in Favourites also in the new client.

For me still a reason why I use both Outlooks side-by-side. It's a huge productivity killer!

Copper Contributor

This is ridiculous.. we want to use copilot, only available in new outlook. but new outlook doesn't have automatic capitalization of i to I, and no shared mailboxes.. what a joke

Copper Contributor

I am eagerly anticipating the release of this feature, as it represents a significant "quality of life" enhancement that is much needed. For the time being, we will continue using the previous version of Outlook.

Copper Contributor

We agree this is a critical feature and the New Outlook is unusable until it is added.

Copper Contributor

Yep, gonna have to keep the old Outlook around and use it for the shared mailboxes that I monitor until MS gets this in place.. Sigh.. Nice a quick though, so look forward to being able to fully cutover to it.

Copper Contributor

Yes this is ridiculous, switched back and won't be deploying for this reason alone - shared mailboxes and easy access/visibility to them are an essential part of any corporate environment. I'd actually go a step further and request that they aren't shoved into a subfolder of my mailbox, these should be at the top level just like any other mailbox!!

Edited to add: The new interface is actually very accessible and FAST, so I hope this issue is fixed as I DO want to use the new version!

Copper Contributor

Please add this feature. It's frustrating that it has been promised for literally years now and we still cannot do this. New Outlook is missing this major feature of being able to keep your shared mailbox visible. We should be able to pin it as a favourite.

Copper Contributor

this is very annoying and quite incredible

Copper Contributor

woohooo! we are at a 1-year anniversary of this request and still not even a single response.

we really need this

Copper Contributor

Very key feature completely missed by Microsoft once again. Please get this one added as soon as possible.

The faster you get this feature on, the more people might be willing to use it.

Agreed, a function needed to be added to Outlook, Favorites allowing Shared Mailboxes

Copper Contributor

I don't know when they resolved it, but it is now working for me.  Everything takes longer to get to GCC, but it is finally working here.

I did upgrade from O365 to M365 a few months ago.  That may have been part of the difference.  Maybe.
