MicrosoftI have got the update two days ago and this new whiteboard is a HUGE step backward. It's not usable now.
I enjoyed the old whiteboard, I mean the oldest version where we have a compass! I am okay with the newly added features over the updates, like shapes and stickers, they come in handy sometimes, but I am an engineering Ph.D. student, I mostly use the pen/eraser to draw hardware sketches, circuits, timing diagrams, and importing images/pdfs sometimes.
What I need is lightweight software in which I can draw my idea down easily and annotate when I need to. For painting, we have more dedicated software, and for note-taking, we have OneNote.
But now, we do not have these features:
1. A proper Eraser. I can live without a stroke eraser, but not without a regular one. When drawing schematics, you first draw an overall shape and then remove/add/refine details, and that requires erasing part of the drawing, a stroke eraser cannot do that.
2. Ruler/Compass. A SHAPE TOOL IS NOT A REPLACEMENT FOR A RULER! Most people won't use the keyboard when drawing, that's super awkward. Though I am okay with shape tools, they don't allow me to erase part of it, like breaking up the line into two parts, that's something we can do in the past version with the ruler tool.
3. Copy/Paste. Honestly, I cannot understand why you removed this feature. This is one of the most important pluses for drawing on digital canvas compared to just drawing on paper.
4. Offline viewing/editing. Seriously? No offline views?
5. A proper pen menu. We need more and larger pens, but not a tiny menu on the top with 3 pens at max! This is so inconvenient, even for the lightest use case.
6. PDF import/camera. For annotation, these are must-haves.
7. SVG export. High-fidelity export is always important, bro!
8. Clear Canvas. Jesus, why?
9. Short load time. That's why a lot of us are using Whiteboard but not other professional drawing tools, right? It's just faster to open, so we can draw down our ideas asap?
I have been using whiteboard on daily basis for years now, but I am now thinking of changing. I am even okay if you charge fees for it, I will pay $50 just for a good nice whiteboard app. But I will not tolerate such a crap, especially when you actually HAD provided me with a pretty decent one.
