We are so excited to announce an enhanced theming experience for tenants. We have started rolling out the improvements and will be generally available by late May 2021. Through the Microsoft 365 admin center, start playing around with colors and logos and assign custom themes to different Microsoft 365 groups in your organization! The organizational theme is what appears in the top navigation bar for people in your organization.

How to get started

To get started, in the Microsoft 365 admin center navigate to Settings > Org Settings > Organizational profile click on Organizational Themes. From there you can add up to 4 custom themes. Each theme can be customized with different logos and colors. Admins can specify theme logos and specify the URL where users will navigate to when they select the logo.

What is exciting about these improvements?

  1. Specify a different logo for dark mode
  2. Create themes for different groups
  3. Get instant accessibility feedback on your theme

We put a logo with a link to our intranet site in the Organizational Theme. Last week someone asked how to get to the intranet site. I gave my standard answer "Just click the logo at the top of any O365 page and it will take you right there". They had changed their theme and there was no logo.

Is there a way to include the logo (with link) to all themes?

Handy feature, but too bad it's just for 5 themes. We've got 6 different schools in our organization with all custom logo's...

Thanks for the feedback! We're keeping an eye out on how organizations use themes and we'll revisit the need for expanding the number of themes supported.

Same here, company has has locations at 13 countries. With the announcement we were thrilled to apply a custom theme for each country applying a custom logo for each of them. After we figured out the limits we axed it completely as we cannot roll it out to 6 and leave the other 7 in the cold and dark, hence you will not get any usage counts from us sorry!

  • We have a transparent logo which is white to display on our corporate color banner. I uploaded it to appear on banner and it is nicely sized on some but on some sites it appears blurry and much larger.

Like John Twohig we starting attempting to use the custom theme to provide a link to our sharepoint home page at the top of every sharepoint page or office.com. Unfortunately, as a good number of our students will have chosen a new theme, and we don't mind personalisation, we can not display without preventing change of theme. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • Customizing default theme (thought this might be the only way to affect users across all groups instead of just a handful) doesn't seem to change anything except that the logo does appear for users. Is there anything needed other than modifying the default for users to get the color changes when selecting the Org theme?
