Share Nearby will be retired from Office Mobile

As we learn more about how users are sharing their documents, we strive to create functionality to meet user needs in the Office app and to work in tandem with iOS and Android to leverage simple sharing across a variety of apps.

 

We have found that the Share Nearby feature to meet some but not all needs. We will be retiring the Share Nearby feature from the Office app as we evolve to offer the best of Microsoft 365 on mobile. This change will affect users of the Office app on Android and will be effective as of December 31, 2022.

 

We made this decision as we continue to reassess the value our users derive from the Office app, and we aim to offer experiences that are consistent, reliable and allow our users to be productive across their devices. It is in this pursuit of streamlining our solutions that we have decided to sunset this feature.

 

You will still be able to send and receive files using this feature until December 31, 2022. After this date, the feature will be removed from the Office app. Files that have been sent and received using this feature will continue to remain unaffected.

    It should be STANDARD with any deprecation message that you post that you also provide me with the ability to know WHO is using the feature being deprecated. In a large org, I'd rather target communications to those using a feature vs blasting out a communication to tens of thousands of users.

    Also, why would you deprecate a solution, used by some, without having a viable alternative already in place. Sure, don't develop it any further, but the current functionality should not be removed without a proper alternative.

    The email announcement states, "You are receiving this message because our reporting indicates one or more users in your organization are using this feature." 

    Is there somewhere we can access this report? This would allow us to send out a message to the users that will be impacted and advise an alternative.

    How do we get the list of users using the feature?

    It is important so we can notify our users about it or prepare them for upgrade
