The Word for mobile team has been working on your requests, and we have an update on some of the latest features we’ve rolled out. Be sure to update to the latest version of Android and iOS to use these features.
Typing on a phone is often slow and autocorrect doesn’t always catch errors. Yet, we know that you want to be as productive on your phone as you are when sitting in front of your laptop. You can now type faster and more accurately with text predictions.
You’ll see text predictions in gray as you type. Simply swipe right anywhere on the document to accept them. If you don’t like the text predictions, just continue typing or swipe left to dismiss them.
Text predictions is a premium feature, which means it’s only available to subscribers (you can upgrade anytime). Because we’re gradually releasing this feature, you’re most likely to find it if you’re on Android builds 16.0.14131.20012 or later and iOS builds 2.52.714.0 or later.
Dark mode is now available to all users in Word for Android. Although this feature was already available on iOS, we’ve recently introduced it on Word for Android. Many people prefer using dark mode because it’s easier on their eyes when reading and working on mobile devices.
To use Word in dark mode, enable dark mode from your phone's settings or, for an in-app option, go to Settings and select Light, Dark, or System Default themes from the Display Preferences (this option is only available on Android).
Coming soon: Change your page background color for easy reading.
Being able to change the sentence case is a core editing capability and we want to increase your confidence in editing while on your phone. You can now change the capitalization of selected text with just a few taps. This feature already existed on iOS, but it's now available on Android, too.
To change the case of your text:
Choose one of the following:
We understand that your reports need to be submitted in Times New Roman (font size 12). After hearing a lot about such use cases, we're happy to announce that you can now start with a blank template that has Times New Roman as the default font. Just go to New and use the Classic double-spaced (blank) template. This template has Times New Roman (font size 12) as the default.
The template is available on both Android and iOS.
The Word for mobile team is constantly trying to incorporate your feedback into our product roadmap. Try out these features and let us know what you think! You can send us in-app feedback by going to Settings > Send feedback to Microsoft.
