We’ve identified an issue impacting Samsung Android 5.1.1 and above that prevents users from sending mail when under conditional access for Exchange Online. Samsung has acknowledged that the issue is contained within the built-in mail client in Samsung Android 5.1.1 and up and is currently investigating a fix. As a workaround to ensure impacted end users can send mail, you can do the following:

Workaround 1 - Advise end-users to use the Outlook app for Android.

Workaround 2 – Follow these steps:

  1. Put the impacted user into a security group in the exempted groups section of the conditional access policy for Exchange Online.

  2. Allow the user to temporarily sync email on the built-in email client.

  3. Remove the impacted user from the exempted group, and confirm that user can now send email.

We will continue to work closely with Samsung on a fix or additional workarounds.

Status update (as of 5/10/16): Investigation is ongoing. The Intune team is continuing to work closely with Samsung on this issue and have frequent check-ins on progress. We will update this post when a workaround or solution is made available.
