It seems the recommended O365 Exchange Online MX record format changed some years ago
From: *.mail.eo.outlook.com
To: *.mail.protection.outlook.com
We manage our own DNS records.
What prompted this inquiry is our Threat Management dashboard at https://protection.office.com says pointing MX record elsewhere (presently set to *.mail.eo.outlook.com) "reduces the effectiveness of your email protection features."
When we update the MX record (to *.mail.protection.outlook.com) at our hosting provider, our O365 Admin Center > Domains, complains saying the expected value is the older (*.mail.eo.outlook.com) MX record?
Thanks for your input.

SolutionHello @Matt West
If you go under Domains in Office365 and then go to the setup, what is the status now?
Note that DNS changes can take up to 24 hours to replicate around the world.
Kind Regards

@oliwer_sundgren I've not tried this again but concluded that I did not allow enough time for propagation.
