2 Mailboxes

Copper Contributor

Hi,

I'm new to O365 / EXO.

Looks like assigning an O365 licensing to an AD user created a mailbox on Exchange Online automatically.

We are in the middle of migrating to EXO and at the moment mailboxes are still created on prem then will be migrated to EXO later on.

Issue: AD sync to Cloud took > 2 hours.

- The AD account creation script actually created an on prem EX2010 mailbox.

As a result, a large number of users are now having two mailboxes - one on Prem, and another one on EXO.

- Both mailboxes have the same SMTP: firstname.lastname@company.com

Some emails going to their EXO mailbox and some to On prem mailbox, and getting a lot of Outlook issue., such as unable to send attachment etc.

Please shed some lights how can i merge the EXO mailbox to the onprem mailbox.

Thank you

There is no "merge" functionality, if you ended up with two mailboxes you need to remove one, which in most cases would be the cloud mailbox. Either use this: https://www.michev.info/Blog/Post/2388/permanently-disable-a-mailbox-in-office-365

Or this: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Exchange-Team-Blog/Permanently-Clear-Previous-Mailbox-Info/ba...

Thanks for this.

Now that emails items are merged into EXO mailbox - facing a new problem.

User not able to update/edit reoccuring meetings that were book previously from the Exchange onprem mailbox.

Any recommendation resolving this issue (besides than recreate everything?)?

Thank you again

When the EXO mailbox user try to update the calendar item created in Exchange onprem, this is the error:

Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients.

Subject:     i was made in Exchange 2010 mailbox

@NodorinaMing
I would say the Calandar Item created via Ex2010 MB misses the Information of the EXO Mailbox. If you only migrated the Mailbox elements and not the whole Mailbox some Meta-Data like X500/X400 Addresses do not change in the elements created by Ex2010 Mailbox.

If the calendar itself is accessible and you can make changes to it, i don't think there is another way around this than recreating the "corrupted" items.
