Have you ever collaborated with someone else in a workbook and suddenly the data table you’re looking at changes drastically? Often, this happens because someone has filtered or sorted the table while you were looking at the data. We realize that while people want to work together in a file, it doesn’t necessarily mean everyone has the same task. To provide users with the freedom to collaborate as they want, we developed Sheet View. With Sheet View, you can create customized views in an Excel workbook to freely sort and filter without being impacted by others. You all told us how much you loved this feature during collaboration, but told us that we can do even better. Here are some recent improvements we've made to Sheet View.

Introducing Sheet View's hide rows and columns

We heard your feedback - that supporting sorts and filters alone in a Sheet View does not accomplish all of your workflows. One of our top asks for Excel for the Web was to support hiding rows and columns in a Sheet View, as well as expanding and collapsing grouped rows and columns. We are excited to announce that these actions are now supported while working in a Sheet View across all platforms.

Let's see it in action:

Introducing Sheet View mobile

Modern ways of working require modern solution. With people working from anywhere and on different devices, we’re seeing more people using mobile to get work done. We're excited to announce that Sheet View is now supported on iOS, iPad, and Android.

Feedback

Your feedback is important to us! Please continue to send feedback to Microsoft in the Excel app about Sheet View as you use our new features and let us know what you want to see next.

Availability

Hiding rows and columns in Sheet View is supported on Excel desktop builds greater than or equal to 16.0.14005.10000, July semi-annual build, and June MEC build. Sheet View iOS mobile is available in 100% production beginning in October, and 100% production for Android beginning in September.

It has been almost 2 years since this was posted, there have been 4 people who have posted the same comment saying that hiding rows does not save in a sheet view once you exit the view, and it is now over a year since the last person posted that.

Microsoft, what are you doing to address this functionality limitation? Since this already works with sorting and filtering, it doesn't seem like it should be that much of an addition to make this work. This would be such a huge improvement to sheet view and working collaboratively on sheets.

Can someone please respond with any kind of an update as to if this is being worked and when it might be rolled out?

Fattah2023 , I guess that's Sheet View for. Each user may use they own Sheet View, thus when you open the workbook other users filters don't affect you, you don't see them at all.

However, the hiding of columns is not saved in the sheet view. So unfortunately this does not help me.
We have an Excel file that goes up to the column AK and it would be great if we could hide the columns that are not needed for the respective department.

Being able to hide columns in Sheet View is really great, but the hidden columns do not save in the Sheet View when you exit and go back to the Sheet View it no longer has the columns hidden. Please can this be updated so that any sheet view you save remembers the columns you have hidden as this makes collaborating on large complex excels easier. Thank you!

  • This functionality (hiding rows and columns) still does not seem to be working in Excel Desktop build 14326.20738.

This AWESOME functionality is not exactly working on desktop version. Yes, filters save in the views, however, hidden columns and, more importantly for my use case, GROUPED columns settings DO NOT save in the view, they simply change for everyone in the file. I checked versions and my desktop Excel reports it is 'up to date' at version 16.0.13801 and your article says version 16.0.14005 is required. Is there a lag in updates or is that on my internal corporate IT side to release the updates? I am assuming the version is the problem.
