Cloud attach vs. cloud only: the debate
Event details
Are you planning a new Microsoft Intune deployment? Are you wondering if you need Configuration Manager? Join Danny and Steve for a special edition of Unpacking Endpoint Management as they breakdown key management workloads of Windows devices (compliance policies, Windows Update policies, resource access policies, Endpoint Protection, device configuration, Office Click-to-Run apps, and client apps) to help you determine if cloud attach or cloud only is right for your new Intune deployment.
This session is part of the Microsoft Technical Takeoff: Windows + Intune. Add it to your calendar, RSVP for event reminders, and post your questions and comments below! This session will also be recorded and available on demand shortly after conclusion of the live event. |
- Rob de RoosIron ContributorGPO's are realy fast in applying. Intune policies/profiles are a lot slower. If we compare to other, agent driven, MDM solytions... Intune is on the slow side. Is there anything to share on that?
- Jason_SandysMicrosoftPlease open a support case to help dig into this as this is not the expectation.
- Rob de RoosIron ContributorWell, our company manages a lot of tenants for our customers. But the most heard frustration is that policies can take a "long time" to apply. Whenever you force a sync, the policies are applied quicker. I believe it still could be faster. Other MDM solutions use agents and when a new policy is configured a trigger is sent out to all those agents. This makes the change to policies almost instant for all online clients. Also reporting on if policies are applied is always behind. Especially when you are testing and need to see the results before publishing policies to production, reporting should be almost instant in my opinion.
- Michael-CMIron ContributorDo you plan to bring any new features to ConfigMgr anymore or can you make an clear statement about product retirement for ConfigMgr since any new invest goes to Intune only as i can see personally?
- ZebulonSmithIron Contributor
Most important question and nobody wants to touch it.
- Michael-CMIron ContributorWonder only WHY 😄
- JonSauter_MKCopper Contributor
Dynamic Groups in Azure AD can't currently compete with the SQL-based query capabilities of CfgMgr collections. Also, the hardware and software reporting capabilities of Intune are worthless compared to CfgMgr. Two great reasons for even moderately complex environments to continue using Cloud Attach.
- Paul_WoodwardIron ContributorFilters in Intune help to plug that gap
- Jim HambyCopper Contributor"Just moving the app workload to Intune" is very simplistic view. Some orgs have thousands of apps. Some with very large, with complex installations and targeting rules. Some to the point that they leverage Task Sequences for performing the installation.
- SteveThomasMicrosoftFair point. This is why simply moving the workload to intune only grants the enablement of being able to distribute apps from Intune without disrupting the CM deliveries.
- Paul_WoodwardIron ContributorWe need uninstall option for users in Company Portal
- Jason_SandysMicrosoftComing soon.
- JochenB007Copper Contributorthat's cool! can you tell me/us a little bit more? do we have to have an uninstall assignment or an uninstall command line (Win32-Apps)? What about having no admin rights?
- David StowersBrass ContributorThe reporting is the weakest link. I have had to deep dive Graph a -lot- to get meaningful reports.
- SteveThomasMicrosoftThank you for your feedback. Please keep checking https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/intune/fundamentals/whats-new for more new items related to improved reporting experience.
- Karthick VCopper ContributorWe are working to deploy cloud only endpoints to 100 K machines. But MS Intune does not have a Production ready Autopilot monitoring and no logs about autopilot failure details. As per MS support engineer, they are requesting to call each end user for failure details. Question: When MS will provide fully working and informative Autopilot monitoring. Will help to move machines on Cloud only .
- SteveThomasMicrosoftHave you had a chance to check out the new device diagnostic features of Autopilot recently made available with the 2209 release? https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/mem/autopilot/windows-autopilot-whats-new
- Security2021Copper ContributorWill there be an MBAM equivalent in the cloud? 🙂 Currently have to use the work of MVP's top cover this.
- Rob de RoosIron ContributorWe have some reeeeeaaaaaaly big apps (like Autocad for example). CM handles those great. Intune has some limitations for filesize, etc. The only option I found is to donwload the installer from some Azure storage when I want to use Intune. For one customer of ours, that is why we still use CM. Is there anything on the horizon there?
- SteveThomasMicrosoftAs cloud-based app repositories and distribution methods like the WPM (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/package-manager/) continue to evolve, I would stay tuned for more enhancements on the application management front in the coming months.
- ROM_1Brass ContributorWhen Will Intune Uninstall actions will be as "on user hands" as with cfgmgr? users can install apps thru company portal, but can't uninstall them with intune... it's possibible thru Software center.
- Jason_SandysMicrosoftWin32 App Uninstall in the Company portal is coming *soon*.
- ROM_1Brass ContributorCan't wait for it. 😉
