What is the session about?

This session will provide educators with robust guidance on how to implement Data Analytics cloud certification in their academic courses in respect to data analytics. The session has been designed to help address the cloud skills gap in industry and improve graduate employability outcomes. We will present guidance on best practices for designing academic courses that embed industry-informed learning outcomes, aligned syllabi, and certifications. We’ll also explore the application of high-quality learning materials available within Microsoft Learn for integrating into academic courses


The session will also provide real-world examples of implementing certifications in courses at further/higher education institutions. Participants will hear from speakers on their experiences of blending certification learning materials which map to their academic course outcomes.

Data Analysts enable businesses to maximize the value of their data assets by using Microsoft Power BI. As a subject matter expert, Data Analysts are responsible for designing and building scalable data models, cleaning, and transforming data, and enabling advanced analytic capabilities that provide meaningful business value through easy-to-comprehend data visualizations. Data Analysts also collaborate with key stakeholders across verticals to deliver relevant insights based on identified business requirements. The Data Analyst should have a fundamental understanding of data repositories and data processing both on-premises and in the cloud.

 

Capstone projects are designed to consolidate learning and to apply skills. This could easily be used as part of formal assessment, or as an enrichment opportunity, e.g., theme for hackathon and/or competition. Unlike an exam, the skills developed as part of a capstone project ensure students’ gather practical experience and can think more widely about real-world problems faced. It is no surprise that when as academics we came together, the desire to develop a capstone project to put new knowledge into practice was sought after. In as much as demonstrating learning and applied skills are invaluable, capstone projects also offer students a wide range of opportunities to develop critical thinking, problem solving, and presentation of their findings. It is through these experiences that students have the capacity to improve confidence, create a safe space for asking questions, and curate a series of activities for discussion at interview and/or for adding to their CV and resume.

 

Who is it aimed at?

The session is aimed at Worldwide Educators from K12 to Higher Education who wish to blend Microsoft Professional Data Analytics certifications into their course programmes.

Educators and developers/IT Professional who are looking at understanding how academic institutions develop and construct new courses which offer both academic and professional certification.

Students and learners who wish to understand what data analytics teaching practices and modules include.

Microsoft DA-100 certification
For those of you who are unfamiliar, this learning path and exam is at the heart of building fundamental skills for preparing, modelling, visualising, and analysing data. Desirable skills for data analysts, they could equally extend beyond this to serve those looking to build new desirable foundational knowledge or for those who want some experience using Azure’s suite of data tools including Power Bi. To state these as desirable would be an understatement. Data analytics tops McKinsey’s business area with the greatest need to address potential skills gap, and Gartner’s TalentNeuron analysis for digital skills in demand beyond tech companies and outside of IT. Not only are data science degrees on the rise. The development of apprenticeship standards in these areas continue to grow and are helping support the need for these skills in industry right now.

Data has the power to accomplish many things in today’s climate. Where big data through sophisticated techniques has the potential to create value, there is no denying the ability for business analytics to illuminate deep data insights that can lead to more confident decision-making and real-time action. Combined with machine learning, automation, and cloud technologies, it has never been more accessible to build dynamic enterprise intelligence layer data and analytics solutions. Even if we consider our everyday use, organisations are increasingly democratising access to analytics and dashboards to instil cultures and capabilities among those teams. As recognised in Forbes, these self-service approaches give rise to frontline workers, regardless of industry and background, to translate insights into business impact and promote data-driven decision-making more broadly.
