Hello, Insiders! We’re back with another update for you. This week, we have a new item being added specifically for new users to our Stable build.

We have had some business users explain to us that their favorites are not importing into new Edge, so we’ve added the new Feedback item Some users lose their favorites on update to Microsoft Edge. After conversations with these users, we found that the favorites they were looking for are favorites from IE11 being synced with OneDrive. We are investigating other complaints about losing favorites when updating to the new Microsoft Edge, but we have some mitigating steps for business users.

If your business configured a group policy for IE11 to redirect favorites to OneDrive, it’s possible that you are running into this situation. OneDrive favorites can be saved on the cloud to “Free up space” on the computer, and we found users running into this situation have this feature turned on and syncing turned off. In order for favorites to sync with the computer so that new Edge can see them, you will need to resume syncing. To do so, click on the OneDrive icon in the task bar (the blue cloud next to the hidden icons option), and you should see an option at the top to resume syncing in a yellow bar. If you do not see that, click on the More … menu option and select Resume syncing.

Once everything has been synced, you will want to import your favorites from IE in new Edge. Click the menu icon in the top right, click Settings, and then click on Import browser data. Select Microsoft Internet Explorer as your target from the drop down (if it’s not already selected), select which items to import, and then click Import. Your favorites should now show up in new Edge from IE11. If you continue to see issues with your favorites after these steps, and you’re a business user under a group policy, please let us know!

We’ll see you all next week!

@MissyQ Thank you! Getter later than never 🙂

Anyway three features from the list are planned for March, we have only last 4 days in this month, are you sure that we will get them in this month? That would be great because I do not want to swicth from Dev to Canary.

Thank you, keep good work! I hope that more will come (at least according to your replies to my emails... :))

@MissyQThanks for the updates! Some experiences related to the new Legacy Edge to Microsoft Edge migration item:

When I installed Microsoft Edge Dev on my personal machine, I ended up having to enable the side-by-side experience because I can't access my O365 work email remotely through my company's Palo Alto Global Protect web portal (a JS file can't be found) even though I can get in with Legacy Edge.

On my work machine, I installed the Stable Channel and had to enable side-by-side because my favorites, settings, history, etc. didn't carry forward from Legacy Edge and there was no option to import from Legacy Edge. Thankfully I could uninstall, enable side-by-side, reinstall, and manually copy everything from Legacy Edge.

When my parents were offered Microsoft Edge via Windows Update (that was their first introduction to the new browser), they were confused when they got the first use experience that asked if they wanted to import data from Chrome and that the update hadn't just automatically migrated their existing Legacy Edge data. Thankfully I already knew about side-by-side to help them out of that.

Any plans to add fluent design elements as shown on the video?

@MissyQ

Can I ask about Edge not syncing with O365 Business Essentials accounts?

I have been told multiple times to enable ESR or SSO within Azure AD, but these options are simply not available within the licensing for Business Essentials.

It feels a bit off that free personal accounts can sync with no problems, but a paying subscriber can not simply sync his bookmarks!

Looking forward to your reply,

Best wishes.

Craig

@panoscool One of the items on this list is to implement Fluent Design. I have no details on the actual look and feel of that at this time, but I will absolutely ensure we share that once I do have those details. 🙂

@falkemarkcraig This is a pain point that the team is aware of and trying to improve.  While we are working to improve this, the current workaround is to purchase an AIP P1 license (documentation on Enterprise syncing is here) and enable the settings mentioned. I get that this answer isn't the greatest and it's incredibly frustrating to be told that you have to pay more to get something free users have.

I specifically sent your situation to the Enterprise team to talk about different ways we can address this pain point. Whenever I get an update around this, I will happily share that with you. Thanks so much for posting about your frustrations, and hopefully this will help you understand that we see this and we are working to try to change it. 🙂

@MissyQ

what about set tabs aside? When will this feature be added. I hate this stupid collection and I'm force to return to edge legacy. collection is useless

@sickaaltaar Once we have more info on decisions we've made about features that currently do not have updates, it will be posted in these summaries. We do have a discussion thread open for Set Aside Tabs. I highly suggest you head over there and detail why this feature is so beneficial for you, how you use it in your daily life, and how Collections doesn't meet those needs for you. This will help the team out immensely with understanding what user pain points are. 🙂

@MissyQ Thanks for the reply. Is there an ETA for the Business Essentials syncing problem? I've read through the workaround and it is not something I will be able to push through with.
Many thanks,
Craig
