Tab Preview - Discussion
Bring the same Tab Previews/Thumbnails from Edge legacy to the new Edge (Chromium)
that was the best design you guys did.
other browsers are trying to mimic and copy Edge legacy, such as Chrome and Vivaldi.
And
- ethanmenzelJan 17, 2021Iron ContributorAre tab previews going to have live animation when you show over tabs that are playing youtube videos? I think I read that Edge is getting live tab previews for moving websites such as youtube somewhere on the internet.

- ethanmenzelFeb 14, 2021Iron ContributorI've switched back to Safari and when I hover over tabs with youtube videos while working on other tasks I often see a frozen preview of the tab. It would be nice for safari and Edge to have animated tab previews especially for when you are watching videos. I could see it more useful when we get the pinned state of tab previews in Edge so that I can watch youtube videos while working on other things at the same time.
- ethanmenzelNov 19, 2020Iron ContributorWhat I realized after having the experimental features enabled for tab previews is that the p[reviews only show a screen shoot of the tab and not the tab in motion. When I have had a tab open playing a youtube video it would show me a screenshot of the video and the tie I hovered over the tab and not the video playing. What would be nice is for edge to show real-time tab previews so that when you hover over tab previews it shows the videos playing and the animations and popups in real-time like you would if you were on the tab. ANd in the latest version of Safari, they do not even have this feature to allow real-time tab Previews they only have screen shots of videos playing in tab previews.
- HotCakeXNov 19, 2020MVPYeah I noticed that too, i think they do this so that Edge won't use more processing power to render each tab preview in real time, only logical things i can think of
- ethanmenzelOct 31, 2020Iron ContributorCould we get the ability to turn on hovering for tab preview or hovering for the text or even both because I like how the text appears in some versions of edge but If we get tab previews the text will be completely gone as in the legacy edge

HotCakeX I'm using Edge Canary and that is what I was used to seeing after I enabled the flag, but now all I get is the text, eve with the flag enabled. don't know what's going on Hope they get it fixed though

These things are normal in canary, it's unstable

- ethanmenzelOct 26, 2020Iron ContributorCan we possibly get both of these for verticle tabs as well?
- Dennis5mileOct 26, 2020Silver ContributorThey work for me on Vert Tabs as well already. If they are not for you, then pls submit feedback with the in-browser feedback button with all your diag data so they can look and figure out why...

It's ridiculous that this feature was removed and worse that MSFT forced the update on my machine to this new Edge version without this feature. I'd like to roll back to the prior version of Edge to simply get this single feature BACK.
- Freddie-ZhangJun 10, 2020Brass ContributorWell said. However, I think that the new tab previews should be rounded, like the current tab preview flag. It should match Fluent Design!

HotCakeX I agree 100%. Chromium Edge's lack of those two features was why I delayed switching to it as my primary browser for so long. I used them extensively and I still find tab management in other browsers cumbersome by comparison. Adding legacy Edge's tab preview features into Chromium Edge has always been at the top of my wish list.
This should also entail a scrolling tab list. Having to click, tap or hover on a tiny little favicon when you have lots of tabs open is pretty ridiculous. There needs to be a minimum tab width like in legacy Edge. 🙂

yes a scrollable tabstrip is really great. previously on Edge, there was a flag with the same name, it never worked, and eventually they removed it.
- shaheedmalikMar 15, 2021Iron ContributorThe scrollable tabstrip is in TabView but Edge's tabscrip was never updated to use it.
You can see in the TabView in XAML Controls Gallery.
- Epic_iProFeb 09, 2020Brass ContributorI agree. Both of these features initially came from Opera (the persistent view going back to the Presto days) and are essentially seen as a design standard these days. Edge should support both with live preview.
