malicious pop-up ad from lacare.org
I tried AdBlocker but it doesn't work. I searched on the internet, and this site is the only one with any mention of it.
It's really quite annoying.
Microsoft Edge has really gotten bad w/all the pop ups and such.
Hello ... GoHack
So you just started to? Can you remember what you did just prior to getting this pop-up?
Did you click on the link I mentioned in the thread, or did it just start appearing somehow?
BTW, does anybody know the phone number to the Microsoft Tech Dept or the reception desk at Microsoft?

Hello ... Deleted
Yes, I think the Techs may have spotted most of the issue, because in the past, they usually do a few strange things (like blocking responses, etc.) before there's a fix to a problem.
But just for now. It may show up later and at which time I'll repost it as separate issue.
But the issue with the lacare.org pop-up is RESOLVED for now (mostly) ...

This is great information 🙂
I have a question if you changed the settings?
Do you think your submissions helped to fix this?
It is worth being in MTC -> thank you for your reply
- tdc_928Dec 27, 2022Copper ContributorInteresting. Doesn’t match my observations.
Behavior has been better. Don’t need VPN anymore and don’t get full-page popup anymore with Edge or Firefox. - tdc_928Dec 23, 2022Copper ContributorDid you get the popup with Chrome browser?
It never once happened to me when using Chrome.
Consider the conclusions IMHO from the observations I made. - DeletedDec 23, 2022
Hi, that was a great discussion, but these conclusions are a bit funny, I don't have ads using Edge so I don't need your solution 🙂
- wcb_123Dec 23, 2022Brass ContributorRevision ... The pop-up came back right after I posted the last business. Guess I'll just have to stop using Microsoft's homepage????????

Hello ... tdc_928
O.K. ... For some reason Microsoft wouldn't post my last about the Chrome business not working either.
But in the meantime, got a black screen and had to reboot; now I don't get this pop-up.
I think the reboot thing goes back at least to Windows 95 when the Techs used to tell us: "just reboot"; because back then they always had to reinstall everything on the PC's so someone just kinda invented the reboot that puts everything back to ground zero without having to go back every time and reinstall the entire Windows 95 OS.
- tdc_928Dec 23, 2022Copper ContributorHere are my conclusions.
LACare is a high priority ad for MSN. MSN.com stories have LACare Banner above the stories and if not there will appear with a page refresh or two. Then the fuil-page popup happens.
MSN news stories have the same behavior even when you don't follow a link from MSN.com
Edge and Firefox do not properly block the full-page popup. Chrome correctly blocks it. So Chrome is detecting a behavior that Edge and Firefox are not.
Using a VPN that bounces through Sidney Australia the LACare ad never shows up in banner of side ad. It appears to be a Local distribution which makes sense.
Until Edge and Firefox apply something similar to what Chrome is doing it won't be blocked by them.
Somebody needs to slap LACare for the creation of this monstrosity and get then to stop. MSN.com also deserve to be slapped for allowing it. Surely Microsoft knows better.
Medicare annual enrolment is over so the ad may just go away soon anyhow.
That is all I have and will use Chrome or my VPN to avoid the issue.
Thanks for everyone's time - tdc_928Dec 23, 2022Copper ContributorAgreed
- wcb_123Dec 23, 2022Brass ContributorO.K. ... Just installed the latest version of Chrome and I still DO get the pop-up ... so it's not Edge
- tdc_928Dec 22, 2022Copper ContributorIf you disable the Total AbBlock extension the popup will return. TotalAdblock doesn't remove it blocks it. As should Edge and Firefox.
- tdc_928Dec 22, 2022Copper ContributorI have found out that Chrome doesn't get the popup. Even with McAfee WebAdvisor tuned off I can go to MSN.com and view pages without the popup.
Firefox and Edge can't stop it but Chrome can.
Not sure what that means. - GoHackDec 22, 2022Copper ContributorI went and tried Total AdBlock, and it appears to have done the job of removing it.
Thank goodness.
It was quit annoying. - GoHackDec 22, 2022Copper ContributorIt just started appearing.
