Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Tech Community. I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble activating your key for McAfee. Thank you for your input, @A1. However, the original user, @HARRYSTEWART , specifically requested assistance with setting up McAfee. It is important to address his specific needs and not redirect him to a different product without his consent. Furthermore, it is worth noting that @HARRYSTEWART has described himself as "non-tech" and thus is unsure how to navigate the process on his own.

While I agree that Microsoft Defender is an excellent product, he has already purchased a license for McAfee and is seeking help in activating it. Therefore, it would be more helpful to point him in the direction of resources that can aid him in setting up the product he requested help with rather than providing instructions on how to remove McAfee.

So removing this product is the best development in my opinion!

Frequent notifications that bother if you have not configured all the security for 18 months is the best time -> to get rid of it.

Thank you for your response, @A1. I understand your point of view, but it is important to remember that the original user specifically requested assistance with setting up McAfee. While we all have our own preferences when it comes to security products, it's important to focus on the original user's specific needs and provide helpful guidance accordingly. As he has already purchased a license for McAfee and is seeking help with activating it, I believe the best course of action would be to direct him to support resources that would allow him to make use of the product he has chosen to purchase.

It's possible that you may have misinterpreted the original user's statement 'my problem is with McAfee !!'. The original user is having trouble activating the software rather than expressing dislike for it. That's why our focus should be on helping the original user with their specific issue, which is activating their McAfee license. If you have any advice on how to assist with the activation process, please feel free to share it. Otherwise, let's keep our attention on the original user's needs.

@HARRYSTEWART, would you prefer assistance with setting up your McAfee license, as you originally requested, or would you like advice on alternative antivirus software like Microsoft Defender? Your preference is important in helping us provide the best possible support for you. Could you please let us know which option you prefer? Thank you!

". As he has already purchased a license for McAfee and is seeking help with activating it, "

Thank you for the lecture, but the user wrote a few sentences, and you already know that he has a paid license?

But your answers are great!

Best regards

Thank you for acknowledging my answers, @A1. However, I would appreciate it if you could refrain from characterizing my responses as a "lecture". My intention is to help the original user with their specific issue, and I believe it's important to provide context for our responses.

From the user's original post, they state they have been a McAfee member for 18 months. While it's possible that they may not have a 'paid' license, it's important for us to assume that they do and provide them with the necessary help to activate it.

I believe we should keep the conversation focused on helping the original user with their specific issue rather than getting into petty arguments. Let's wait for the original user to respond and provide further details about their issue, so we can better assist them. Again, thank you sincerely for your input, but let's steer this conversation back to the issue at hand. :smile:

"I believe we should keep the conversation focused on helping the original user with their specific issue rather than getting into petty arguments."

Let me add that sometimes a new computer had this program installed - it always uninstalled it, so I never even thought that anyone would want to pay for it.

Thank you for your additional input, @A1. It's important to keep an open mind about different users' preferences when it comes to antivirus software, as not everyone has the same experiences or technical knowledge.

While you may prefer to uninstall McAfee on new computers, there are users who choose to purchase and use the software, which is why it's important to respect their choices and help them with their specific issue.

Let's continue to keep the conversation focused on helping the original user with his specific issue and providing helpful information. If you have any advice or suggestions for resolving his issue and helping him set up McAfee, please feel free to share them.

@familieslife1

I can't be objective in this case, we're in the Microsoft space and I'm not interested in third-party products. :(

Thank you for your honesty, @A1. However, it's important to remember that this thread is focused on helping the original user with their specific issue, which is activating McAfee. While it is perfectly OK to have personal preferences for products, we mustn't let those preferences become biases that impact our ability to support users effectively and objectively.

If you don't have any insights or suggestions that may be helpful to the original user beyond removing McAfee, that's perfectly okay. However, it's best to refrain from further comments that are not helpful to the original post.

Let's focus on providing the best possible support to the original user to get his license activated.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in keeping this thread on track.

@familieslife1

It seems that the author of this post fixed his problem and, as often happens, did not thank you, but I want to thank you for the discussion and commitment!

Best regards.
