If I create a group, then close it.  How do I get it back?  Seems the only way is to find it in history.

Use Reopen closed Tab in context menu. It opens last tab or last group. Check it.

Thanks. I use that function. But if I come back in a month, it wouldn't be the last "tab or group"
:) Decidedly, last means last! Not previous. ;)
