Ok, first
1. Wherever your shortcut to which ever version of edge your using is, right click it
2. on the next screen that pops up after your right click, right click the name of the edge version you are using.
3. After you right click it, another popup will show with the name "Poperties" on it, click it.
4. on the next screen that pops up make sure your on the "shortcut" tab section at the top of that screen/window. and where it says "target" is where your going to add this "--enable-features=msFavoritesOpenInNewTabSetting" line at the end of what is already there. Do not replace what is there, just add to the end of it without the quotes..
5. Now after you add that line, look at the bottom of that window and you should see the word "apply" click it.
6. After you click "apply" click the word "OK".
Then if you have your edge browser open, close it and restart it. If you don't have it open, then just start your browser and you should be good to go.
After you open your browser you will need to right click on a favorite you want to open and verify that "always open in a new tab" is checked and if it is not click it to place a check ✓on it. After you do that you should then be good to go for all favorites you open there after.....
Hope this helps

Dennis5mile Sometimes it will fail after closing the entire browser.
You need to close all edge processes and restart it.
- Dennis5mileMar 13, 2023Silver ContributorNo, this is not true. I run Canary and only Canary and when I close it I go through the task manager to make sure it is totally down, which it is as I have nothing being saved for it to load faster the next time I start it.... etc.......

Dennis5mile only stable versions. Canary is ok.
- ratu2007Apr 15, 2023Brass ContributorI agree with you, do you have any idea when will be official release It is not even in the latest Dev version
- ratu2007May 10, 2023Brass ContributorYou right, this solution does not work perfectly. Any official statement from Microsoft.

jieny I added the option string to the shortcut and did a complete reboot (so no outstanding processes). Favorites still open in the current tab. Is this still only available in Dev versions? Is there a projected GA date/version?
- JawzzyJun 02, 2023Copper ContributorIf I'm reading right, you added the string, then rebooted expecting it to work since all Edge processes are rebooted, BUT I don't believe it works that way. FIRST, either bootup with no EDGE starting, or kill all present EDGE processes after closing Edge....they always stay there if you don't. Then add the string and then start Edge. You should then be able to right click on any favorite and see a check mark beside Always Open Favorites in a New Tab. Even then though, sometimes it disappears and you have to reboot or shut down Edge COMPLETELY and restart it, and it returns. Good Luck!!!

Jawzzy Just went in after a long hiatus (annoyed me enough to revert to Chrome) and it's automagically working now. Interesting to see how long it lasts. Thanks
