Discussion: Add ability to close tabs via double-click
about extension activation deactivation:
is better, because now the chrome extensions close directly tab with double click. this is not the same if they implement 2x + x button near mouse (but such things can be done from extension developers too). in some parts i agree with you.
about hoarding: is related, because i use 2x to batch follow people or to decide which video are good, etc., this is how i can follow 20k without problems.
example: instagram gives you suggestion of xxx mens physique and female fitness athletes. i batch open all these accounts and then i batch follow or close it, without using other methods, otherwise i lose the position of my mouse. same for pinterest, tiktok, etc. If you are asking you, why i don't use directly close left/ right, then is because i backup all favourites tabs to different services before closing them. by clicking close left right i still lose my mouse position, so i avoid it too.
yes we could use shortcut (except close to the left), but i hate shortcut via keyboard in some situations.
i close tabs once i finish my workflow. the same i do for research and other topics too. i do the same to batch click the same download button on different tabs, without loosing mouse position.
i still know that during normal usage of edge such batch 2x is not needed, this is why i disable the extension when i don't hoard data.
about fear: yes and no. you still need to activate it before and depends from how they implement it. But again, for me there are features much more important, especially if edge implement a simply 2x close on the tab. such feature for me doesn't bring a lot of difference. generally i never click on tab to close tabs.
obviously now i'm talking of my usage, then edge need to hear to other people too.
Well I've explained here how you can use the built-in tools available right now to manage lots of tabs in Edge
- HotCakeXOct 29, 2020MVPYes, so saying a feature is being requested by a lot of people is not accurate when there is no poll to see how many people don't actually use/want that feature.

Kam i mean 13k vs 330 mio ... we can never express the idea of what the average user want https://www.thurrott.com/windows/windows-10/135090/330-million-microsoft-edge-users
but at the end this happens for all things in the life (ex. politician). a small group need to decided for the rest, like devs decided what is better for the community.
better to stop here xD otherwise the post contains things that are not related...

edgesuggestions12.9K means 12,900 something. If you're talking about all the browsers combined that's more than you said but Edge alone it'd probably be 12,000 using x and 900 using y.

HotCakeX yes, same like the opinions from this website.
it will never reflect the reality, considering that there are 12.9K members, and maybe a lot are inactive. is a small size compared to the rest.
i still think the numbers doesn't say nothing. not only because 1mio people do x and 100k do y, means x is better than y, otherwise it seems like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wave_(2008_film) or https://www.tiktok.com/@bellapoarch?lang=en (still better to follow an user with 100 follower, that is able to perform good streetdance for example...compared to what bella does)
- HotCakeXOct 29, 2020MVPYes I know they said that but it doesn't mean in any way that the majority of people want that.
there is no poll to ask whether people want this feature or not.
only some people apparently sent feedback requesting this feature, it is a one-sided conversation.
now that it's being discussed, the advantages of this feature is being questioned.
also, if for example 100 people sent feedback requesting this feature, there could be 10,000 people not asking for this feature. obviously, those who don't want a feature don't send a feedback saying that because it doesn't make sense. - edgesuggestionsOct 29, 2020Iron Contributor
HotCakeX yes i know about group, windows, close tabs, selection tabs and this is why i asked in the last posts to improve such features too, by adding a lot more option (example domain specific, etc). these are good in some point, less good in other.
But to conclude this topic, i understand your point and if edge doesn't implement it, it's ok. it's not on my wishlist. at the moment i'm ok with my extensions, even if a 2x + x would be cool. this is still not what edge wants to implement (or what user want), since they wrote we have noticed a growing trend in requests to support double clicking on a tab to close it.
at the end even apple implemented 0 of 400+ suggestions i submitted. i prefer they implement other features (for example faster save pdf, etc).
