Dev channel update to 102.0.1245.3 is live

Microsoft

Hello Insiders, we come to you today at a slightly different time than our normal releases!  Right now, you should now have build 102.0.1245.3 in the Dev channel.  Soon, we’ll also be releasing the first build of version 103, but before then, there may be another small patch or two to 102.  We’ve also got an article explaining the rationale behind an experimental new web control to build dropdown menus:  https://blogs.windows.com/msedgedev/2022/05/05/styling-select-elements-for-real/.  As for everything in the build right now:

Added features:

  • Added support for a custom IE mode list in Settings.
  • Added the ability to add a password directly in Settings.
  • Enabled support for XCloud Clarity Boost by default.
  • Enabled support for a management policy from Chromium to control if the User Agent Client Hints GREASE Update is Enabled, which controls if the updated GREASE specification is used (which could lead to broken websites) or an older version.   Note that updates to documentation and administrative templates may not be available yet.
  • Developer (note that updates to documentation and SDKs may not be available yet, and all of the below APIs were previously in the “Experimental” status):
    • Added an API to WebView2 to Clear Browsing Data.
    • Added an API to WebView2 apps to handle Server Certificate Errors.
    • Added an API to WebView2 to monitor HTTP navigation Status Codes.

Improved reliability:

  • Fixed a crash when closing a tab.
  • Fixed a crash when sending feedback.
  • Fixed a crash on Mac when syncing.
  • Fixed a crash when viewing certain Settings pages.
  • Developer:
    • Fixed a crash in WebView2 applications when running them elevatged/with admin privileges (Issue 2356).
    • Fixed a crash in WebView2 applications when they change focus (Issue 1552, Issue 1681, Issue  2311).
  • Fixed a crash on mobile when interacting with content on the new tab page.

Changed behavior:

  • Fixed an issue where a Sidebar button on the toolbar couldn’t be disabled.
  • Fixed an issue where search engines disappear from Settings.
  • Fixed an issue where exported enterprise site lists don’t contain a version number.
  • Fixed an issue where the browser sometimes can’t be closed while downloading something.
  • Fixed an issue where the Downloads popup sometimes appears in the wrong window when multiple windows are open.
  • Fixed an issue where Enhanced Security mode settings sometimes aren’t visible.
  • Fixed an issue on Mac where the Performance Hub is missing some information.
  • Fixed an issue where searching using Alt+Enter on Windows results in the address bar showing the wrong text on other tabs.
  • Fixed an issue where clicking on notifications in the Windows Action Center sometimes fails.
  • Fixed an issue where Print Preview is blank.
  • Fixed an issue where printing a PDF sometimes doesn’t work correctly.
  • Fixed an issue where text on Extension badges is red.
  • Fixed an issue where the Find on Page popup is red.
  • Fixed an issue where the Picture in Picture controls are red.
  • Fixed an issue where parts of the browser don’t use dark theme in InPrivate windows.
  • Mobile:
    • Fixed an issue where the new tab page sometimes doesn’t scroll properly.
    • Fixed an issue where links opened from Outlook sometimes don’t work.
    • Fixed an issue where adding or editing a Collection sometimes fails.
    • Fixed an issue where certain Read Aloud voices are missing.
    • Fixed an issue where Read Aloud doesn’t work.

Known issues:

  • Users of certain ad blocking extensions may experience playback errors on YouTube.  As a workaround, temporarily disabling the extension should allow playback to proceed.  See this help article for more details.
  • Some users are still running into an issue where all tabs and extensions immediately crash with a STATUS_INVALID_IMAGE_HASH error.  The most common cause of this error is outdated security or antivirus software from vendors like Symantec, and in those cases, updating that software will fix it.
  • Users of the Kaspersky Internet Suite who have the associated extension installed may sometimes see webpages like Gmail fail to load.  This failure is due to the main Kaspersky software being out of date, and is thus fixed by making sure the latest version is installed.
  • Some users are seeing “wobbling” behavior when scrolling using trackpad gestures or touchscreens, where scrolling in one dimension also causes the page to subtly scroll back and forth in the other.  Note that this only affects certain websites and seems to be worse on certain devices.  This is most likely related to our ongoing work to bring scrolling back to parity with Edge Legacy’s behavior, so if this behavior is undesirable, you can temporarily turn it off by disabling the edge://flags/#edge-experimental-scrolling flag.

Beta users: be on the lookout for version 102 soon too!

@josh_bodner automatic profile switching based on the URL using "Profile preferences for sites" still isn't working on macOS in this build. Are you aware of this issue?

@josh_bodner the extensions list is fixed in latest Canary build but not in this dev build

is it going to be fixed for dev builds as well soon?

The issue ”Find on Page popup is red ” is still there, version:  102.0.1245.7 Dev(x86_64)

Is "Workspace" coming sooner?
Hi Josh, good news from my testing. I'm on 102.0.1245.7-1 on linux. The black screen on browser start is still there, but it seems it's waiting for some timeout, because it finished opening my browser after 30seconds or 1 minute.

Also i'm finally able to enable sync to my work AAD account, it does not crash after allowing sign up from 2FA

Thanks

After this update Microsoft Edge is constantly accessing my location, even if no pages are open. Windows displays the icon constantly in the system tray "Microsoft Edge is using your location" no matter what page I open.

Good, that means the fix did indeed work, and the black screen is completely unrelated. Have you filed feedback from within the browser for the black screen yet so we can get some logs for it?
The text was fixed but the buttons took a little longer. They're fixed in Canary right now, so they should also be fixed in the next Dev.
We're getting quite a few reports of this and are looking into it!
Hi, i have send feedback right now, hope it helps
Hi,
is there a way to keep collection synchronised with tabs in tab group? I know, i can open collection as tab group, but i would like to keep it updated, as i browse/open/close tabs in this group. Is it possible?
Or button in tabs group to save this group back to collection (not to start new collection, but to update old)
Hi

First of all, I can't send feedback the normal way because the popup appears pitch black, and if I close it the browser gets unresponsive.
Next, the Extensions button is broken, the flyout doesnt load the list of extensions properly.
The button to import certificates doesn't do anything.
The whole browser UI is English, but I have Spanish set as preferred language.

@josh_bodner is there any way to enable Xcloud clarity boost on Linux?
