Suggestion for removing a failed / dead distribution point

We have what I believe is a failed remote distribution point.  The DP is running on headless on Windows 11 on PC class hardware, and services a small-ish office.  I'm waiting for the hardware to be shipped back to me to confirm, but in the meantime, I'm trying to develop a plan if the hardware has failed.

Over the years, I've retired many distribution points, and have a procedure for that scenario, but they've all been online and accessible.  This time I think it's different.

If the DP is not able to boot, is the process as simple as just deleting the server from \Administration\Overview\Site Configuration\Servers and Site System Roles and wait?  I'm not married to reusing the same name for its replacement, but I will need to use the same IP due to IP helpers on the switches.

I'd prefer not to open a Support Case if not necessary.  I did see https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/a9c3af04-ba25-4987-b72d-a954c4d9fda5/proper-removal-of-dead-dp-from-sccm-console-current-branch, but the suggestions varied.

Thanks in advance.
