Experiencing a similar issue with a similar setup i.e. Mac, RDP, and external monitor rotated to portrait mode. Attempting to expand RDP to fullscreen does not result in appropriate rendering as it remains in landscape orientation, cutting off lateral portions of the view.
Based on the OP and my experiences, it seems there is a problem rendering appropriately for a given external view.
