As a follow-up to our recent announcement at Ignite regarding the public preview availability of Synapse database templates for six industries, we’re pleased to announce today that we are making available, in public preview, additional Synapse database templates for five more industries:
- Agriculture
- Energy & Commodity Trading
- Freight & Logistics
- Oil & Gas
- Utilities
The Synapse database template for Agriculture is a comprehensive data model that addresses the typical data requirements of organizations engaged in growing crops, raising livestock, and producing dairy products, including field and pasture management and satellite and drone data.
The Synapse database template for Energy & Commodity Trading is a comprehensive data model that addresses the typical data requirements of organizations engaged in trading energy, commodities, and/or carbon credits, whether as a primary trading business or in support of their supply chains, operating businesses, and hedging activities.
The Synapse database template for Freight & Logistics is a comprehensive data model that addresses the typical data requirements of organizations engaged in providing freight and logistics services, by air, ship, barge, train, truck, or any combination thereof. A significant portion of this database template is also included as part of the previously announced Retail and CPG database templates so companies in those industries will likely find what they need to manage their transportation and supply chain data in those models but companies whose primary focus is providing transportation and logistics services will likely prefer to focus instead on the dedicated Freight & Logistics database template.
The Synapse database template for Oil & Gas is a comprehensive data model that addresses the typical data requirements of organizations engaged in various phases of the Oil & Gas value chain, including any or all of oil sands mining, upstream / E&P, midstream, refining, petrochemicals, and distribution and retailing. In addition, our larger energy customers have shown significant interest in the complementary database templates for Energy & Commodity Trading and the power generation portion of the database template for Utilities.
The Synapse database template for Utilities is a comprehensive data model that addresses the typical data requirements of organizations engaged in generating power and/or transmitting, distributing, and/or retailing electricity, gas, and water. The database template for utilities also includes detailed support for the generation of power from Biomass, Coal, Hydro, Natural Gas and Oil, Nuclear, Solar, and/or Wind sources. The database template also includes detailed support for utility-scale water desalination for companies operating in parts of the world where that activity is part of the power and water business.
Most of the Synapse database templates contain many different business areas that together comprise each of these very large industry-specific data models. For example, in addition to business areas such as Product, Inventory, and HR, there is also an Emissions business area which provides support for data used to report greenhouse gas emissions (including scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3 emissions), an area of significant focus for many of our large customers.
These 5 additional database templates can be accessed now in Azure Synapse either in the gallery or by creating a new lake database from the Data tab and selecting + Table and then From template.
