Find optimal VM size

Hi,

We have deployed 2 VMs (Standard E4ds v5 & Standard D4ds v5).

Both have attached a 4TB data disk.

Now we receive daily alerts:

- Slow Disk Throughput Under Load

- Disk Latency is too high

Is there another VM size you can recommend that fits better?

If not necessary we don't want to change to Premium disks

Certainly! To find a better VM size that can improve disk performance without requiring Premium disks, we'll consider options with higher disk throughput and lower disk latency. Here are a few recommendations for VM sizes:

    1. Standard E8ds v5: This VM size offers twice the CPU and memory resources compared to the E4ds v5, which can help improve disk performance.

    2. Standard E16ds v5: With even higher CPU and memory resources, this VM size provides better performance potential for disk operations.

    3. Standard E32ds v5: This VM size offers significant compute power and memory, which can contribute to improved disk performance and reduced latency.

By upgrading to a larger VM size, you should see improved disk throughput and lower latency, addressing the performance issues you're experiencing. Remember to consider any potential cost implications when choosing a larger VM size.
  • If there is a disk latency I guess you have to move to premium SSD or Ultra SSD other options might be enable disk caching and configure some kind of RAID by attaching additional disks
