Create cross functional flowcharts more efficiently in Visio Online

We’re constantly monitoring our UserVoice site to understand how our customers use Visio Online and what features could improve their online diagramming experience. One of the biggest asks for Visio Online in recent months—if not the biggest ask—has been cross functional flowcharts (CFF). That’s why we’re especially excited about this release, which brings CFF shapes, templates, and starter diagrams to Visio Online.

CFFs show you the relationship between process steps and the organizational or functional units responsible for them. Such diagrams clearly communicate who’s responsible for what and can help you quickly identify inefficient or duplicate steps. This release includes new tools specifically designed for building professional CFFs. With a single click, you can add swimlanes and phases, show or hide separators, rotate lane labels, and more, helping you quickly create diagrams that conform to accepted standards. We’ve also included several starter diagrams, including processes for insurance, credit approval, new hire onboarding, and more.

We think you’ll find collaboration features in Visio Online especially useful for creating CFFs. Since these kinds of flowcharts naturally impact multiple teams, collaborating through quick sharing options in Visio Online, easy access to everyone on the cloud, and reviews through comments can help ensure all stakeholders have a say in the final process. That way, there are fewer surprises and specific departmental requirements are captured.
