Today our new Microsoft 365 Roadmap is live! We are excited to share this new version of our roadmap, that brings together Office 365, Enterprise Mobility + Security, and Windows 10 into one destination.

 M365 Roadmap.jpg

In addition to retaining all the current information and functionality of the existing Office 365 Roadmap, we’ve updated our site design to improve the user experience.

With the new Microsoft 365 Roadmap, you’ll be able to:

  •  Utilize new search filters such as product, cloud instance, and platform.

  • View additional information for the features on the Roadmap, including whether the feature is deploying in Targeted Release, preview, specialized cloud instances, or worldwide. This information will be located on the feature card, or available via search in the Roadmap.

  • Leverage new RSS capabilities through a custom link on the Roadmap web page. Using the RSS features feed you can subscribe to be notified of real-time feature updates, and view the notification in Outlook, supported browsers or mobile readers. Power users can use various tools to automate the handling of RSS updates to integrate them into their own 3rd party services.

    Other notable changes:
  • The existing Office 365 URL (https://products.office.com/business/office-365-roadmap) will be replaced with a new Microsoft 365 Roadmap URL (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/roadmap). The existing Office 365 Roadmap URL will automatically redirect to the new page.

  • The "previously released" category will become the “launched” category. Launched features will remain in the “launched” category for six months after going live.

We have redirects in place so that the deep links in any existing Message Center posts will continue to function, and any bookmarks you have set to the Roadmap will continue to work.

RSS is good, but you should provide more information in the card for the readers, at least is it in development, launched or what.

Senior Member

You can pull this information from the road map via API which includes the status (in development /rolling out / cancelled etc.).

Works great :)

I have subscribed to RSS on Microsoft 365 Roadmap day one it was posted here and at first it was fine. But recently most RSS entries link to random places, like pages, images and not actual roadmap entries. It seems MS just can't create a convenient and useful way to track changes in their products..

Also when sharing by email, put portion of entry description or title as a subject instead of generic title. I find the same problem with Message Center. You can't tell what is shared with you just by the title of an email or you have to additionally manually add a comprehensive title.

I like that you have moved in dev, launched box to the bottom.

Why it has to be so cramped on mobile? No need for this huge header which takes half of the screen and stays there while you scroll and sharing buttons shouldn't be on top of text.

I have a 7 inch tablet and can't comfortably read the update. Same as this community site, form over usability again and again..

Is it just me, the links are not working anymore.

What a hell? I see an entry in M365 roadmap today - SharePoint web part: code snippet and it shows a short text "The Code Snippet web part allows authors to share code snippets, with correct syntax, for many commonly supported development languages, on their modern pages. " but the link on that entry in RSS goes to some old blog post instead https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-SharePoint-Blog/Build-your-modern-intranet-with-Sha... This is happening very often, sometimes link is attached to some random image file. This is just awful..

Super Contributor

It happens when there is a More info link attached to the entruy, then it substitutes the link for the actual M365 roadmap entry with that more info link.

Any chance you can put a bit more order to the RSS feed? For example, there's a whole bunch of "category" elements, can these be renamed to things like the csv titles (Status, Tags, etc)? Thanks

The old one had a thousand times clearer structure.

The new roadmap wastes so much space, when viewed on a desktop. I can see no more than 6 rows on a 1080p monitor. You could fit much more information on one page, if you would remove those massive white spaces. Then you display only 10 rows per page and force me to turn over pages like a maniac. Mobile first is really cool and all, but many of us still use a desktop for their daily work. Please do not ignore us.

Super Contributor

Actuality it is even more ridiculous on mobile.

New Contributor

None of the links to the Roadmap work, we see this message '

We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found.

The URL may be misspelled or the page you're looking for is no longer available.'

Am I missing something?

Microsoft

Thanks for the feedback.  We appreciate your attention to the Roadmap and want to assure you that we are constantly working to make improvements to the visual experience and the content provided. We agree with your comments on the overall layout and presentation and are working to improve these areas.

With regards to the informational links mentioned, the public roadmap is our earliest view of committed features that are coming your way. As a result, informational content is still in the process of being created and the UI design is generally not complete at the time of the initial post.  To remedy this, we try to include an informational blog or directional comment associated with the Roadmap ID to give you a general idea of what is coming.  We later include more specific feature content to you as links in the Message center posts as plans, timing and design solidify.  We always strive to get information and updates to you as early as possible.  We will keep working to make improvements in this area and have passed your feedback to the owner of the specific SharePoint ID that you mentioned.

Super Contributor

I don't mind roadmap entries having links to additional information. But when you form your RSS feed, more info URL is replacing the actual roadmap entry URL.

Say this roadmap entry https://www.microsoft.com/lt-lt/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=45026 has a more info link to https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Microsoft-SharePoint-Blog/New-no-code-solutions-for-custom-fo... blog post. But in RSS first URL is replaced with second one. So from my RSS reader i can't reach the actual roadmap entry. And i might need it to see the status, its ID, etc.

Microsoft

Thank you for your feedback. In regard to the URLs provided in our RSS feeds, we are looking into this issue and will work to resolve.

Can I am trying to get a better understanding on the 3 categories mentioned above

  • In Development :  The feature is worked on by the dev team or is going through internal testing/QA in the test tenant (MSIT) at Microsoft.
  • Rolling out :  Is either in the 2 week (10,50 & 100% coverage) targeted release cycle or in the 4 - 6 week (10,50 & 100% coverage) cycle for all remaining tenants cycle???
  • Launched:  All tenants should have happy users able to access this  feature

@mkashman did a good job on explaining the Microsoft 365 release cadence during the Intrazone S1 23

but I think it is worth clarifying these details.  To avoid further confusion, I say roll on tenant level announcements aka: ... "We are please to inform you that  the following listed: feature id, descriptions, statuses   are now available in your tenant ??????? " . Better still Get-MSOLTenantFeature (!!!!)  to return the same, prior to a custom dev deployment in our tenants ;)

Super Contributor

Regarding the URLs in RSS feed. One month later, still the same issue.

Microsoft

@Daniel Westerdale

The public roadmap is a non-authenticated experience and provides the best snapshot for all customers. Targeted information specific to your tenant will be sent in a Message center post. That being said, we are reviewing the best way to handle dates and statuses on the M365 Public Roadmap and will continue to make improvements based upon your valuable feedback. We want to make sure that the Public Roadmap is easy to use and accurate and that the Message center posts provide you with the information you need. Thank you again for your feedback.

Microsoft

@Oleg K

We have identified a fix for the issue with the RSS feed and are working on a solution. Again, thank you for you attention to the Roadmap.

@v-joshi  thanks for the update:  authenticated verses non authenticated messages / roadmap statements .  One quick question: when the message arrives in our message centers,  is this part of the launched or rolling out phase. Also, is there a typical duration when we might see the feature go live in nn days?

Each Message Center post is targeted as accurately as possible to the timeframes or environment specific to the tenant who receives it.

@v-joshi  thanks your reply.  I think you are saying I should focus on each targeted tenant message; rather some arbitrary deployment phase (Rolling out, Out to lunch! In Development) as stated in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap. And here is the reason why....

In development!

In my tenant, I can see it is GA  aka Launched/Rolling Out which in fact it is.

From MC:

Starting in March, we will begin rolling out the following enhancements and features to the Microsoft 365 Public Roadmap:

  • Last Modified Date: When this update is rolled out, the Last Modified Date will reflect the date information is updated for an individual feature item. This will allow better tracking when information changes for features that are important to you and your organization.
  • Enhanced RSS Feeds: Currently, when a ‘More Information’ link is not provided for a feature, the M365 Roadmap RSS feed defaults to provide a link back to the roadmap. The RSS feed will be updated to include both a ‘View Roadmap Item’ link, directing users to the feature in the M365 Public Roadmap and a ‘More Information’ link that will direct users to more information when available. Not all features will have a ‘More Information’ link, as upcoming feature information is provided as early as possible and this information is not always available. ‘More Information’ links will continue to be provided in Message Center posts for specific features.
  • Microsoft 365 Feedback Feature: We will be adding a feature to the M365 Public Roadmap which will allow users to share ideas and suggestions on how we can improve the M365 Public Roadmap experience. We look forward to hearing feedback on how we can continue to improve the M365 Public Roadmap experience.

I just hope that Enhanced RSS won't make things worse. I don't need many links in RSS entry. Just one link to the Roadmap item itself. And then you can put whatever number of links on the roadmap item's page itself. If you are going to still put a number of links in the rss entry, then make sure that default link is the actual roadmap entry link, not More info.

My current Roadmap flow is:

I get notification in my browser that 5 new items are in Roadmap feed. I click to open them all in new tabs. I then check every of them and click on more information links in them if i'm interested.

I don't want to go deeper into my rss reader, expand every roadmap entry and click on an appropriate link. This will be like 10x slower for me.

The updated information provided in the RSS feeds will point the title of the feature to the roadmap item. If there is more information available, we will provide a ‘More Information’ link within the content of the post. Different RSS readers will display the information in these posts in varying ways, but it is unlikely that this will result in any additional clicks.

Would anyone know if this feature will be able to be used to control the use of Outlook email on Android phones?

Thanks

@OMM123  this topic is about the Roadmap page itself, not about new features announced there. You should ask your question in Outlook or Intune forums.

What's up with https://www.microsoft.com/lt-lt/microsoft-365/roadmap?filters=&searchterms=49358 it is only now appearing as done, but it shows Q4 2018 as release date. Is it only now finishing to deploy everywhere? Or is it being added to roadmap retroactively as it was forgotten?

Microsoft

@Oleg K

This feature content was added retroactively for our customers. For more information specific to this feature, you can reference https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Azure-Active-Directory-Identity/Azure-AD-group-based-license-...

Just an update. Today there was an item in RSS with an additional link and RSS item opened normally as it should.
