It will be helpful if the folder and file icons in SharePoint libraries and in OneDrive have clear visual indication on them when they are shared externally.
Now we have a separate Site in SharePoint dedicated to external file sharing. It is the only place from which our users are allowed to share folders and files externally. We made it like this, so users can keep in mind that items placed here can be shared, even by someone else. However placing Items for sharing in different site just for purpose of sharing worsens sharing experience and increases administration overhead. If there is a clear indication on file and folder icons that item is shared externally, we could allow sharing from all sites and close that special sharing site.
