Sharepoint Lists: Difference between Hyperlink columns and Image columns

Currently it is not possible to distinguish between hyperlinks and pictures when does the hyperlinkOrPicture field is coming? Besides that when it is the case that I have an image column why does is the actual value a string (with JSON inside) instead of an actual JSON object.

Would be really nice to have this functionality! 🙂
