I have happily used Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for number of years now. I'm on macOS 10.14.6, RD Client 10.8.2 (2088). After recent update, I lost access to the client's legacy Server 2003. It was working nicely before. I'm sad today. Below is the log.

We recommend to review our troubleshooting section first. The other option you have is to open a support ticket through the Azure Portal.
Exact same error, and it totally prevents remote access to the server. Both server and client are using a vpn:

Same problem for me as well. It worked fine for 1 year and a half.
