Event details
Arian_van_der_Pijl Thank you for the feedback. You are right, Autopatch sets the Edge release channel (Microsoft Edge channel overview | Microsoft Learn) - but the functionality you are asking for is currently a gap. Let me know the scenario you are trying to address (or the concern here) as additional detail/context.
Hi EricMoe, thanks for the follow up, appreciate :)
(I copied this from another thread which Aria already responded on so a blunt copy/paste)
Basically, I use the tools that is now available with the current config policies.
The idea is to have a quicker way (where possible) to update Edge and nudge and eventually a forced restart to the end user. To accomplish with todays tools i created this (hopefully correct :) extra device config policies in Intune for this purpose which might technically show my objectives :).
I created 2 Intune device config policies which in my opinion target 2 separate items, Edge itself and the Edge updater service:
DeviceConfig-App-MicrosoftEdge
Objective is to notify and eventually force the user to restart the browser:
Example settings:
- Notify a user that a browser restart is recommended or required for pending updates -> Enabled
- Notify a user that a browser restart is recommended or required for pending updates (Device) -> Required - Show a recurring prompt to the user indicating that a restart is required.
- Relaunch browser quickly when the current version is outdated -> Enabled
Time period (days): (Device) -> 7 - Set the time period for update notifications ->Enabled
Set the time period for update notifications: (Device) -> 86400000
DeviceConfig-App-MicrosoftEdge-Updater
Targets specific the Edge updater service:
Objective is to force set the updater and increase update checks
Example settings:
- For all edge release channels including Edge Webview2 runtime:
Update policy override default -> Enabled - Policy (Device) -> Always allow updates (recommended)
- Preferences | Minutes between update checks (Device) -> 90
- Auto-update check period override -> Enabled
So basically, the settings that allows for tighter control of the Edge updater service and also the end user notification experience. As seen this week it seems Edge is updating everyday this update cadence would nicely reflect to set by Autopatch as one stop for all settings :)
Not feeling entitled to anything just thanks for taking suggestions :)
