I don't know that it installs automatically, but I did put one of my test machines in the "Client Apps" group yesterday and when I checked today it DOES have Company Portal. I'll have to put another machine in the "Client Apps" collection WITHOUT them being in the group I told Intune to require the installation.
I am VERY surprised to see that my Software Center applications are showing there as I certainly haven't packaged them for Intune yet. Assume this is to be expected. I am not familiar with Company Portal. Is software Center no longer a thing even in a hybrid co-managed environment? Is Company Portal in addition to as a transition or what?

Yes, MECM deployed applications will appear in both Company Portal and Software Center by default. Software Center will still function and apps can be installed from it, but it's to try and transition users over to the 'Company Portal Experience' I suppose. I'm pretty sure that a device in device collection targeted by the Client Apps workload will install Company Portal automatically.

Company Portal installation requires you to create an app using the new app type and assignment; Intune will not do any of this automatically (although it is something we would like to do in the future).
