A simple question. This may be petty to the level of this discussion, but in Windows 10, I could customize a folder to "carry" a picture on top of it. For me, being hard of seeing, a picture is more readily readable than just the name of the folder. For example, I would go to, "Properties,' then "Customize," and then "Choose a file to show on this folder icon." Then I would choose a picture related to the data in the folder. Why doesn't that work in Windows 11?

Good question, I see that the setting is still there, and I remember trying to do this as well and actually you probably need to change the folder icon to a different icon altogether, unless you use a Windows 10 system and save those folders with the icons showing over the folder to onedrive, then they can sync to your Windows 11 device. I know this because I have several folders with floating icons over them on my desktop, most likely from Windows 10 and saved and synced to onedrive. Good Luck.

Anyway, it should work just like on '10, '07 and 'XP. Either way, if I had to change the Icon to something else, it should be documented and that "Customize" tab needs to be modified. We'll see how it plays out. Given my experience with Windows, it may take a year or so.

Anyway, the image on a folder worked best when the image was in the folder and the icons had to set to large. So, here I have Windows 11 and I have all the folders ready to be set up, but no-go. As a rule . . . whenever i reinstalled Windows (I would do so, once in awhile when the old PC got sluggish. Yeah, it was really old! I built a new one to carry Windows 11) the folders would all reset to their native image, so I was ready. I would just go through each one and fix it up as I used it. Too bad, I don't have a screen shot! If I find one, I will post it. Anyway, if you hear anything, please don't hesitate to give me a shout. I even have yearly images, I would set up with my taxes folders, so if I wanted 2019, I could spot it immediately.
