Can you guys elaborate a little bit on why the name change to Windows 11? This is quite the change from "Windows 10 is the last major OS" as announced at Ignite 2015. It seems as though Windows 11 is still built on top of the Windows 10 kernel (and registry version shows it as 21H2), so why the name change? This just has some documentation implications in our environment and we are trying to better plan for the future at our company. Can we expect similar name changes in the future that would match up with major UI changes? Will Windows 11 follow a similar update cadence to windows 10 (ie Windows 11 22H1, 22H2, etc?)

Hi ConfigMgrDave, thanks for the question. Windows 11 is more than a name change to Windows 10, as it is a new version of the operating system. In 2015 we shared our plans to deliver Windows as a service to bring new innovations and updates in an ongoing manner with continuous value for customers. This commitment remains – Windows was never meant to be stagnant. We will continue to deliver innovative experiences that empower people. Windows 11 will have an annual update cadence, in the H2 timeframe.
