The Windows Subsystem for Linux (or WSL) team is here to answer your most pressing questions about running Linux workflows right on your Windows machine! We’ll talk about everything from new GUI application support in Windows 11, to GPU compute support, mounting drives, using USB devices and more.
Thanks to everyone who joined this AMA and those who watched the live stream. Did you enjoy the event? Should we host regular WSL AMAs? If yes, how often? Let us know in the comments!

- CharlesMorinCopper ContributorIs it possible to run Open Virtual Switch in WSL for other providers such as VMware Workstation, Fusion and/or VIrtual Box?

- ReillyWoodCopper ContributorSome good answers from the team (thanks!). Some suggestions for next time:\n\n- I had no idea that there would be a livestream, or that it would be hosted on YouTube. The description made it sound like it would be just text answers here. Maybe make that more clear next time.\n- This Tech Community website is... not great. Check out all the comments where it couldn\'t handle line breaks and apostrophes correctly. I also don\'t like that replies are hidden by default; it means the WSL team\'s answers are not very visible.

ReillyWood - Appreciate your feedback. We'll work on improving the experience for future AMAs.
- JoemuraiCopper ContributorIs building dotnet apis on windows host with VS and js Spa clients on wsl a common workflow? Right now it\'s still tricky to connect wsl to services on host ie changing ips and windows fw.
- wslcorsairOccasional Readerps: concerning Podman, the newest v4 version does create a WSL2 distro with the command `podman machine` 😄
- wslcorsairOccasional Readerfollow-up question: will it be possible to have other root filesystems for the distros? (i.e. BTRFS)
- MrHappy1525Occasional ReaderI run wsl on Windows 10, if I run wsl --update, will I be running the latest version, that is available on Windows 11 via the Windows store, or is Windows 10 support being left behind?\n\nIn the Windows Store for Windows 11, do you supply a What\'s new section so people know the differences ?
- Tamir Levy
Microsoft
Our goal is for everyone to use the store version, which is currently available on Windows 11.
The WSL on Windows 10 is still supported but is tied to the OS version.
- wslcorsairOccasional ReaderJust saying hi to the wonderful team 🙂 (and when we will have CBL-Mariner on the store? 😇)
- SMT_SolversOccasional ReaderHow do you toggle WSL 2 containers with PodMan instead of Docker Desktop?
- Mike_DeBergCopper ContributorBen\'s right on with the enhancements needed for more power! \n
- nkef_grCopper ContributorWhy WSL is implementing OpenGL->DX12 translator and in feature Vulkan->DX12 translator instead instead of the GPU partitioning technology available in Windows Sandbox for example ?
