Is the Legacy GUI for viewing LAPS passwords deprecated?

May 31, 2023No.
- MarkRagnarMay 31, 2023Copper ContributorThank you. Can it be used to view Windows LAPS assigned passwords? As an AD attribute, I would think so.

The legacy LAPS GUI is not deprecated per se, but we did not bring it forward into the new native Windows LAPS feature. You can still run the legacy LAPS GUI, but if you are using a new Windows LAPS policy your clients will be targeting different AD attributes not the old ones -so the legacy LAPS GUI will not be of much use there. For Windows LAPS GUI onpremises scenarios, we only have the new AD Users & Computers snapin. There has been a lot of requests from customers to bring the legacy GUI forward into Windows. We are looking at adding a new dedicated GUI, you can upvote that effort and add your feedback here: [Windows LAPS should have a dedicated password retrieval UI](https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-laps-feedback/windows-laps-should-have-a-dedicated-password-retrieval-ui/idi-p/3814702) I am also looking at doing a Windows Admin Center extension. - Cliff_FisherMay 31, 2023

You must use the PowerShell or new UI to view Windows LAPS assigned passwords. They are coded to look at different attributes. While it is not deprecated at this point, we're also not making any code changes to Legacy LAPS to retrofit it for Windows LAPS.
