Oct 26, 2022Hi Rob,
Thanks for the question. You can be certain that Delivery Optimization is extremely safe to use within your organization and we strongly discourage you from turning it off. It might help to provide an overview of what happens when Delivery Optimization's peer-to-peer requests a download. I think you'll find this information useful, https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/deployment/do/delivery-optimization-workflow. Please let me know if you have any follow-up questions once you've looked through that information.
We are here to help!

Hi Carmen,
The question we got asked was, what happens when the device is on an open WiFi or home WiFi with other Windows 10/11 devices? Will the device use peer to peer from those devices and how safe is it?

Hi Rob, Thanks for the question. When the device is on WiFI does not change how the content will be securely downloaded using Delivery Optimization. With Delivery Optimization you have the flexibility to define the peering boundary between your devices. The default is the LAN Download Mode. Essentially, you tell Delivery Optimization where to look for peers. If you are on a WiFi network, those devices will download using the same level of security, where each hash of the content is verified before the download occurs. It is also limited to curated Microsoft content, sourced from Microsoft. Please let me know if you have further questions. Happy to help.
