Event details

Join us for a special Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA) live video stream across four Microsoft content collaboration products: SharePoint, OneDrive, Lists, and Stream! Our product teams will be answering your questions about future roadmap and recent innovation – and offering insights on what to expect in the coming months.

Each team will present five minutes of content to catch you up on the highlights, and to spark what questions you might ask, and then have 10-15 minutes to take your questions. Post your questions at any time – starting your question with the product name to help us navigate it to the right experts; example: “SharePoint: How will Copilot help me create pages and news in the future?”

This is a great opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have from recent Microsoft 365 Conference (May 2-4, 2023) disclosures: Review Jeff Teper’s May 2nd (5/2) blog post

  • It's good to see that SharePoint Online is running multiple sprints together in terms of bringing new technologies (AI, Security, etc). However have we forgotten where it started from i.e. SharePoint On-Premise, Is On-Premise a turtle in terms of modern web parts site templates, SPFx, etc. updates? What's the roadmap for it? Currently, SPFx is running on 1.17.3(May-2023) whereas 1.5.1(Jun-2018) just got support in Subscription edition 23H1, there are multiple security incidents reported due to an older vulnerable version of Node.js which is a dependency of SPFx version. Please put light on this matter. @Dave Cohen (US) Cathy Dew

Thanks for hosting it a bit later in the AM. I have a standing event until 9:30 every Weds. I do have questions for you and some thoughts as an implementor of SharePoint and OneDrive in a number of companies.

Looking forward to this! One of the big things I'm looking forward to is seeing the performance and UX improvements to SharePoint pages and lists. However, the roadmap (ID 117377) says that the page authoring experience was scheduled for March. When can we expect to see these improvements rolled out and will there be advanced notice?

Now that Streams is moving to SharePoint, will we eventually be able to look at any audit information on whom viewed the videos on the SP sites? We can currently use audit logs to see that (person who viewed video) data on Streams. Secondly, Vimeo allows you to place a password on videlos to allow viewing, we are considering moving our company videos off of Vimeo to SP but can you think of anyway to place that viewing restrictions on the SP/Videos?

Hi Leland UsherMarc Mroz addressed this question during the AMA within the Stream section toward the end. Let us know if you need more info.

Thanks for your feedback and time in joining the AMA. - Mark

  • Here is a first question to start things up:

Why can't we use @mentions in SharePoint document libraries comments as we can in Lists? We use it to keep the exchanges on a list item in the same place and to be sure that people are informed and I was surprised to find out the it is not possible in libraries. A library is basically a list with a required field that is the file. By the way, comments should behave the same way for all file types. Office or not.

Hi Benoit, thank you both for your question and patience. The good news is the SharePoint document libraries are based on the Lists column platform, and the comments capabilities - including at-mentions - would appear once the common experience work is complete; of which, it is in transition to work toward a singular experience when working with files in OneDrive, Teams, SharePoint, or on list items in Lists. - Mark

Plus, looping in Miceile Barrett & LincolnDeMaris to keep me honest.

I didn't get an answer live. Will you at least take the time to reply in this post?
