- stuartmcgarrityJun 14, 2023Brass ContributorHi Marc, Thanks for following up. I'm still on the fence about the net benefit of these changes. With Stream on SharePoint, I have managed to do lots of cool things with my videos by now having access to the SharePoint REST API (get/set properties, transcripts). But this big model change will make it more awkward for many content creators. Its like if Google said "We have shutdown YouTube. Instead, simply upload videos to Google Drive folders and share them like files!" You *can* think of video as files but in my experience its common for many people not to. Its a shame we can't have the best of both worlds.
- Rhys WilliamsJun 14, 2023Iron ContributorOr you just dont change something that isnt broken in the first place? Everyone liked the way a Stream classic channel was like a YouTube channel and you could easily present videos around a certain topic in the same place. I think "Users just need to get used to it" is a terrible answer.

Microsoft
I do think you can have the best of both worlds. Check out Playlists, more to come in this space as we make even more investment in Playlists. Check out building video destinations into SharePoint pages https://aka.ms/StreamPortals You can have easy share of videos as files and destinations for sets of videos. You have to do a little bit of work with web parts but it's way more powerful. I can tell you looking at the telemetry across Stream (Classic) before we decided to switch to Stream (on SP) and the usage on Stream (on SP) so far even though people are still migrating, we've way more than eclipsed usage of Stream (Classic) historically with usage on Stream (on SharePoint). So way more videos being uploaded, shared, and viewed on the new platform than we ever had on Stream (Classic). So I hear you that "just get used to it" is a horrible answer. To add more, we are working more on Playlists, Stream Start Page, Web Parts, SP Video Pages, Permissions, and other features to help users feel better about using SharePoint over Stream (Classic). We know that the loss of channels and portal is hard and we are working on various features to alleviate some of that pain.
- stuartmcgarrityJun 14, 2023Brass ContributorPlease keep working on playlists (using Microsoft lists). I think they are currently not usable. I spent some time trying to re-create my Stream classic channels and found I had to add a custom column to a view to store the sort order. This is too much work.
