SharePoint Question: When replacing a classic root site with a modern site, does the modern site remain reachable from it's original address? If not, does SharePoint put in a redirect?

The Replace Site command in the SharePoint admin center (same as PowerShell method but with a GUI) sets the default SharePoint URL to the new site and then appends the legacy URL with /archive****. The files & links no longer work so we always migrate files to the new site for our users. Or better yet - to a Team site based on their function that is connected to their new communication root site via the Hub function.
- ITpadawanJun 02, 2023Copper ContributorJust to clarify, are you saying that when I make the modern site the root site, the files and links aren't migrated?
- KasperLarsenJun 14, 2023Iron ContributorCorrect , the content stays within the Site Collection
