While all of these "when will we get X feature" comments are great, what I'm wondering is: None of these are new requests. People have been asking for years. They feel unheard.
I had very high hopes for the relaunch of Planner, but feel like there was a big opportunity missed. It feels like lipstick on a pig. And a money grab with most of the focus being on Planner "Premium". I'm imagining much of this presentation will feel that way too.
But it's not too late. This thing can be great. And I would gladly be willing to blaze that trail with you all.
So all of this for my question: Will we see meaningful change in the base level of Planner in the next 6 months? No, not on the integration with Pftw. Actual features people have been asking for. Something that prevents people from going to something like Asana or Monday and working around the fact that those tools aren't integrated as well, but are far better project management tools.
Gold star if you give a real, non-political kind of answer. We all know MS has the ability to do this. But should we get our hopes up?
- AndersL1020Sep 11, 2024Copper ContributorLets ask these questions again when the live Q&A starts.
- mherremaSep 11, 2024Iron ContributorAs far as I remember, the comments on YouTube will be disabled just fyi, so there won't be much of a live chat.
- alisondCARESep 11, 2024Brass ContributorCould NOT agree more! Has been so frustrating not to be able to do some of the things in Planner folks have been asking to do for a LONG time (@mention team members in comments, sending emails from Outlook into Planner, etc.). There are features like this that should NOT require premium teams if folks are already paying for the O365 licenses that are going to continue to drive more and more folks to other project management platforms.
- mherremaSep 11, 2024Iron ContributorIt's really unfortunate. We struggle to recommend Planner to clients/students all the time because of these gaps. It always feels like we're steering them to something inferior.
- AndersL1020Sep 11, 2024Copper ContributorI have all of these questions as well. Please provide us with a roadmap on Tuesday so we know when we should start to use Planner/Project.
- mherremaSep 11, 2024Iron ContributorHopeful we see good things.
- GW_SwicordSep 11, 2024Iron ContributorThank you, Mitch. While I have been among the when-will-we-get posters, you have asked the real question from all of us who, for whatever reasons, will not be using Planner Premium (or Project) in the foreseeable future: "Will we see meaningful change in the base level of Planner in the next 6 months?"
- mherremaSep 11, 2024Iron ContributorI'm convinced they know what people want, just aren't sure it's worth the investment in the "free" tool (which we're literally paying for already) versus pushing forward premium features so they can make a couple more bucks.
