Event details
Join us for two special events where our Planner product team shares what is coming to the new Microsoft Planner.
In our Meet the Makers virtual event on April 3rd, leaders from the Planner product team will talk about the latest on the future of task and work management for Microsoft 365. They will explain how the new Microsoft Planner brings together the simplicity of Microsoft To Do, the collaboration of Microsoft Planner, the power of Microsoft Project for the web - with the intelligence of Microsoft Copilot - into a simple, familiar experience.
Our experts will showcase some of the key new capabilities and improvements of the new experience, including demonstrations on how to leverage Copilot in Planner to create plans, tasks, and goals and get Copilot to answer questions on progress, priorities, workload and more.
On April 4, we will host a special Ask Microsoft Anything (AMA). During the AMA session members of the Planner product team will answer questions directly from the community. This is a great opportunity to get answers to any questions you may have from the recent Meet the Makers event.

- emmaemma22Copper ContributorIs there a way to recover accidentally (or purposefully) deleted projects, tasks, etc?
- -_RH_-Iron ContributorNope, not yet; see the similar comments here (also many other places): https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/planner-events/the-new-microsoft-planner-meet-the-makers-and-learn-what-s/ec-p/4102511#M35.
- kunalyadavBrass ContributorHow new Planner stores comments ?(currently as an email in the mailbox)
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeeNo change in new Planner to how comments are stored, but as mentioned at the Meet the Makers yesterday, always a possibility that further architectural changes may come.
- MaryHillSHUBrass ContributorA QUESTION ABOUT LICENSING - because it is important to consumers. There appears to be a number of different 'flavours' of Project each with there own licences. (Project on-premise standard, Project on-premise professional, Project Server, Project Online, Project for the Web ...) This is so confusing for the consumer. My org has Project on-premise standard, but this doesn't enable them to use Project for the Web/Planner Premium and this is a major drawback in trying to get adoption of the new Planner. We have been forced to buy Project on-premise standard because we buy M365 A3. Buying the Project for the Web/Planner Premium subscription would add to our costs and this can't be off-set by dropping Project on-premise standard because we are being forced to buy it. Is there a way out of this so our users can take full advantage of New Planner at no extra cost to our org?

Can you clarify what will eventually be depricated and what will continue to exist in the long term? I assume "Dataverse" based Planner, and Project Operations (D365) will all continue to exist going forward...is that correct?
- Does that mean Project Desktop, Project Server, and Project Online will eventually be deprecated?
- Will Project Operations (D365) be affected by the roadmap at all? Will that also consolidate with Planner or will it remain a separate solution?
- Will Azure DevOps be affected by the roadmap at all? Will that also consolidate with Planner or will it remain a separate solution?
- Will there eventually be a Desktop app that connects to Planner?
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeeAs announced at Ignite, there is no end of life date for Project Online. Project Server and Project Desktop follow their own lifecycles. Project Server Subscription Edition is an evergreen release following the modern lifecycle, and expect Project Desktop future releases to stay in line with Office as it has in the past. Project Operations isn't affected by the new Planner. No plans for connection to the desktop currently, and no effects on DevOps. We'd love to hear the scenarios behind your questions Jason.
- Erik van HurckCopper ContributorHi Brian, I was assuming that Project Operations uses the Project for the web schedule? Is that changing in any way?
- sthoms2000Brass ContributorI'd love to hear about the roadmaps to these products also. Robust Project and Portfolio planning tools are being pushed to the side as Microsoft focus on small time, agile tools like Loop and Planner. MS is neglecting advanced project management tools. Resource Management no longer part of Project, you need a technical resource to install a Power BI add-on and it seems more geared towards Dynamics (Project For Web seems to be an after thought). All this makes us wonder where our we should focus our energy next with new tools.
- JohnnaWheelsCopper ContributorI can't see this video.

- atrain204Iron ContributorWill you be adding a proper "Activity Feed' that informs team members exactly what has changed, when it happened and who did it? The current solution (the pop-up banner) is as useless as a screen door on a submarine.
- Brian-SmithFormer EmployeePremium plans do have task history, that shows the kind of information you are looking for. No plans to have this available for basic plans. (Love your screen door analogy Alex!)
- LaraBeckCopper ContributorWe are a professional services organization, delivering projects to external customers. So our project teams are made up of internal staff and external customers. In both of those categories some have Project and some don't. What features are available and not available for users/stakeholders who don't have a Project license?
- SueMcDCopper ContributorAnyone know how to remove the restricted mode for this event?
- samaxeCopper ContributorWhat is the future of the To Do application? Will it continue to see app updates or is it all moving under this new app in Teams?
- Luke-PlannerPMFormer EmployeeHi Scott - thanks for the question. We're ultimately trying to rationalize all Microsoft tasking experiences to enable a holistic M365 task ecosystem. Are there scenarios in To Do that you don't see in the new Planner that you leverage today/care most about?
- Yves_Talbourdel44Copper ContributorWe assume that a resource has 40 hours of work per week. If that person works on 2 projects, MS Project currently does not allow you to link both together, and it can not limit to 40 the resources's hours assigned per week. Will the new Planner allow that feature? Or is it already possible with a dashboard in Power BI?
