Hi Chris,was it really @everyone or @channelname? If it is the latter, I had the same issue here, turns out, that the checkbox was not activated for that. You can go to the elipses menu of the private channel > Manage channel > Settings. The strange part was, that I had the settings where different in the new and the old. So I had to go back to the old Teams to also activate the checkbox. Maybe this helps.

User was saying Everyone. In classic teams you can use everyone but I am seeing what you mentioned as an option.
